the heavy asphalt-like stuff sinks So, essentially, we've paved the floor of the Gulf?

Oil is a natural product of the earth. The volume of this spill was man's fault, letting all that nature out at once. But I'm sure natural events such as landslides and earthquakes have released similarly large amounts of mother nature's goo.
Does anybody know if the geological record records large oil releases? Or does nobody research nature's ejaculations with such fervor?

"They found oil on the seafloor, evidence that it may be in the food chain OMG, you mean like carboydrates, and complex protein molecules...stuff like that?

No. They mean the critters love to seek out and eat globs of hardening coal tars. It is far superior to their natural foods./sarc

Does anybody know if the geological record records large oil releases?Good Question...I don't have the answer....
If the critters in the Gulf have been around for the centuries...they may have eaten all of the evidence...
There are such things as Tar Pits on land...like out here in California.

This is a finding in search of a problem. Recent studies have discovered a series of asphalt "volcanoes" in the Santa Barbara Channel, six storeys high and a hundred yards long, at a depth of 600-700 feet. They are caused by natural seepage and have been building at least since the Ice Age.
No one has ever claimed that the ecology of the Channel is anything other than what it should be, even without knowing about the mounds of pure asphalt. Clearly, a slurry of tarry asphaltic oil at 5000 feet in the Gulf is even less likely ever to make a difference in anything.
Move along, eco-idiots. Nothing to see here. Really, nothing to see here.

Although most of it is as an emulsion and is inoculated with bacteria (both good), I wonder how active those bugs will be at temperatures like that with as little circulation as one would see at a boundary layer. Hence, I would think it would be hard to predict how stable the system is because factors such as topography, currents, etc, would definitely be in play. Further, if the blanket is thick differential pressures and surface chemistry would tend to recombine the droplets into a mass.
dunno.

Move along, eco-idiots. Nothing to see here. Really, nothing to see here. Except what happens when you disperse millions of gallons of surfactants.
As to the asphalt, mine it. The stuff is getting expensive.

according to enviro-evolutionary nazis, any animals too stupid to goto a differnt area to eat should be darwinized anyways...
sounds like tribal africans that sit in the desert and starve, rather than move to a place that has food...

Most Freepers on this thread see the truth or are close to it.
The rest of the morons out there actually believe the liberal mainstream media, that this BP oil spill was a
disaster. Since the media lied aobut this what don't they lie about?
What are people thinking? The media blasts this all over the place for 3 months saying (Lying) , screaming that this was a great disaster, the end of the world blah blah blah. and then all of a sudden the media coverage of this “great disaster drops to practically zero when compared to the previous coverage. and people don't even question that. same thing with the swine flu pandemic that never was a pandemic. This bp oil spill was never a disaster.
1. This was no disaster. the liberal mainstream media lied.
2. More oil seeps out naturally out of the Ocean floor every year than this BP oil spill.
3. There is no oil on the Gulf coast, as in the beaches of Florida.

There is no oil on the land areas like the Gulf Beaches. But the liberal media said it would take 50 years to clean up the Gulf Coast. The media blasted this every day for 3 months and had everyone talking about it. Then all of a sudden the coverage is about 1/billionth of what it was . So did the disaster become 1 billion times less or was there never a disaster.
Even most on this conservative site still believe this bp oil spill was a disaster. People have to realize the mainstream media is a propaganda arm of the democrat party. The media are socialist political activists posing as reporters posing as journalists. EVERYTHING these evil lying socialists say or show should be ignored, not believed and or fact checked.
