Washington (CNN) - In a surprise move, Senate Republicans decided not to remove Sen. Lisa Murkowski from her top position on the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee Wednesday, according to several Republican senators who refused to explain their decision.
Republicans had indicated as recently as Tuesday she was likely to lose her seniority on the committee as penalty for her write-in candidacy in Alaska.
A GOP source in the room tells CNN, despite anger towards Murkowski, the conference decided not to even take up the question of the Senate Energy Committee post because "there was a sense that she's resigned her leadership post, she lost her primary, she will probably lose her race, and she'll be gone. She will not be ranking [Republican] because she will not be here."
This, despite strong words from colleagues like Sen. John Cornyn a day earlier, who was among many Republicans who predicted they would remove her from the committee post.
Sen. Murkowski resigned her position as vice chair of the GOP Conference Friday.

Him, Boehner and Steele - all three losers.
I hope enough tea party candidates are elected to remove these cretins.
Moocowski’s name should always be misspelled.
If they don’t fix this fiasco quickly, I they all should be thrown out of the leadership.
What the hell good is a “leadership” that refuses to lead.
And leading means that you punish traitors to the party.
What? They’re just being polite to a fellow senator? Well, you aren’t polite to traitors. And she sure as hell hasn’t been polite to the party that gave her all that power and pork for so many years.
You have a good point Neil....other news orgs have been reporting also, with no denials, so far.
Can’t imagine that she filmed any of them in the bedroom. It’s just that they lack the stomach for principled action on anything.
Now it could be that since the State of Alaska was cleaned up, that the graft has moved to the feds with Murkowski the contact to the oil companies, an indispensable player in the chain of oil company donations to the Republicans. That would explain why they were so anxious to get up there and bend the results of the election in her direction. Just a guess.
These folks have been so used to hanging out with Hillary and her emasculated brethren that they are now too interested in keeping up with the
Jones when it comes to hoarding power,
which requires no caJones.
Remember this come 2012 and 2014, the RINO hunting has only begun. Grahamnesty has to go. Sad fact is that we have to wait until 2014.
FUGOP
Yep, the power of the ballot and contributions.
They STILL don’t get it, though.
So we can’t count on Murskowski for the 41st vote, but we were supposed to count on Castle for the 51st?
Thanks. That makes sense. I had thought our party leaders had gone wobbly on us again or something silly like that.

Per my conversation with Reptile Senatorial Camp cmte. staffer
Loser Lisa has been removed from the committees she was on and is not w/ the Reptile senate campaign committee as of 2:48 CST today.
I did ask them to update CNN while they were at it.
I would guess from the failed DADT and DREAM ammendment fail she may still be cacusing w/ the reptiles but she’s not on their committees

Did you hear him on the radio yesterday? He was wonderful, I had never heard him before.
I don’t usually purchase political books, but this one I certainly will.
It felt so good to hear someone voice what we are all thinking!

In a rare triumph for Senate traditionalists in this anti-establishment year, Republicans Wednesday decided not to punish Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R., Alaska) by stripping her of a powerful committee post.
Senate Republicans, angered by Murkowskis decision to run for re-election as a write-in candidate after losing the Republican primary, met behind closed doors to consider demoting her from her post as top Republican on the Energy and Natural Resources Committee, a prized perch for her resource-rich state.
But with the committee unlikely to conduct any further business this year and the act seen as largely symbolic, Republicans decided not to add insult to her injury at the hands of Joe Miller, the tea party-backed candidate who beat her in the primary.
We all respect the system, and she still is a Republican senator, said Sen. Orrin Hatch (R., Utah.) after the closed party caucus. Its just a matter of good taste. We decided to keep the status quo as long as shes a senator.
Murkowski: I wanted to be the first to find a Golden Ticket, Daddy!
Senate Leadership: I know, angel. We're doing the best we can. I've got every volunteer in the Capitol and in Alaska hunting for you.
Murkowski: All right, where is it? Why haven't they found it?
Senate Leadership: Lisa, sweetheart, I'm not a magician! Give me time!
Murkowski: I want it now! What's the matter with those twerps in the Republican Party?
Senate Leadership: For five days now, the entire flipping Senate staff's been on the job. They haven't done anything else since the primary. They've been working the flaming telephones from dawn till dusk!
Murkowski: Make them work nights!
