Murkowski NOT stripped of committee leadership position
CNN ^

Posted on 09/22/2010 12:07:35 PM PDT by roses of sharon

Washington (CNN) - In a surprise move, Senate Republicans decided not to remove Sen. Lisa Murkowski from her top position on the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee Wednesday, according to several Republican senators who refused to explain their decision.

Republicans had indicated as recently as Tuesday she was likely to lose her seniority on the committee as penalty for her write-in candidacy in Alaska.

A GOP source in the room tells CNN, despite anger towards Murkowski, the conference decided not to even take up the question of the Senate Energy Committee post because "there was a sense that she's resigned her leadership post, she lost her primary, she will probably lose her race, and she'll be gone. She will not be ranking [Republican] because she will not be here."

This, despite strong words from colleagues like Sen. John Cornyn a day earlier, who was among many Republicans who predicted they would remove her from the committee post.

Sen. Murkowski resigned her position as vice chair of the GOP Conference Friday.

She's doing more harm to the democRAT in the race than to Joe Miller. I'm happy to let her split the liberal vote.

Spineless RINO weenies just gave Murkowski something to hang her hat on during her Alaska write-in campaign.

My guess is she threatened to throw her vote to the Dems for the rest of her term, restoring the 60 vote super-majority.

“..there was a sense that she’s resigned her leadership post, she lost her primary, she will probably lose her race, and she’ll be gone.”

All of this is true.

But nonetheless, there has to be a punishment for this type of party disloyalty. To not punish her is to basically say that either a write-in campaign (or sore loser challenge - depending on the state in question) is OK with them.

By not punshing her, this tells other GOP members of the Senate that there’s no fear of having to pay a price for their disloyalty.

And that’s wrong. Way wrong.

What were they thinking?

They should explain themselves.

Give up on the elite Repubs. It's the citizens vs Washington DC. We are at war for our freedom, so fight to win not to appease.

No party discipline whatsoever! They should have made an example of her.

Where is it in the Constitution that a Minority Leader has to be a Mr. Congeniality?

McConnell deserves panties on his head.

This is CNN.

I will not believe it until I hear it from a reliable source.

Why do people pay any attention to CNN, Newsweak, MSNBC, etc. I find the National Inquirer to be more reliable!

They probably made a deal that she would not vote with the democrats in a lame duck session.

But can she be trusted?

Y’all need to chill.

She’s toast, everybody already knows that.

But she can be the 60th cloture vote anytime she wants. This is what happens when we don’t have a buffer.

As it is, she voted to block DADT & the DREAM Act amendments when she refused to end debate on the NDAA.

Think of the war, not the battle. Leadership has its hands full and we are literally hanging by a chad.

So buck up. She keeps her ranking seat & we don’t fall pray to more Dem buffoonery. In January, say hello to Sen Miller.

I just sent a scathing email to Sen. Grassley. If the Senate Republicans don't have the stones to strip this traitor of every post she now holds, they do not deserve our support. It makes me sick that the Citizens Uprising sweeping the nation did not happen here in Iowa. Instead, we have an aging RINO like Grassley running unopposed in the primary who will now stroll to victory over a leftist trial lawyer. We need to demand some accountability from the Republican Senate “Club” and have them tell us how they voted on Murkowski. IF they say anything other than “I wanted her out” they need to be targeted and voted out at the first opportunity.
