CNBC Stars Play Prominent Role in 20th Century Fox's 'Wall Street 2'
TV Newser ^ | September 22, 2010 | Alex Werpin

While certain executives at News Corp. may not agree, it is obvious that at the moment, the top business news channel on Wall Street is CNBC.

With that in mind director Oliver Stone prominently features the network's anchors prominently in the upcoming sequel to his 1987 film "Wall Street." This despite the fact that the film is produced by the 20th Century Fox film studio, a sister company to Fox News Channel and Fox Business Network.

Per MarketWatch.com's :

And no actual journalists shine brighter in the new 20th Century Fox production than Maria Bartiromo and her CNBC posse. If you watch the network during the day, you'll recognize the likes of Bartiromo, Jim Cramer, David Faber, Becky Quick, Sue Herera and Melissa Lee. The network's stars appear on camera so often that this film is practically a product placement for CNBC.

Indeed, Friedman notes that early on in the film, Bartiromo appears in a scene where she interviews Michael Douglas' character from the film, Gordon Gekko.

Obviously, films often try to add a sense of realism to their world. In that regard, including CNBC makes perfect sense, seeing as it is the top business channel right now.

On the other hand, would including Fox Business Network, Bloomberg or even some fictitious business channel really take away from the film?

Likewise, while news anchors often appear in films playing themselves, does it hurt their credibility off of the big screen?

I saw Oliver Stone on Joy Behar last night. It was all I could do to not throw up all over the TV. His hatred for this country is beyond words. He hates everything “right”!! Palin is evil, George W. is evil, Newt is way evil and well I guess Im evil.

BTW, his moustache was ridiculous. Whats up with that coming back in. John Bolton is about the only one that can carry off a moustache!

I am looking so forward to this movie. I don't understand why people are dissing it. Is everyone afraid it won't be as phenomenal as the first one. That is always a risk when you do a sequel, but I think they can make it as good if not better than the first. I know all of you saw the first one for sure.

Stone used to make good movies, Platoon and Wall Street were excellent movies, but after that (remember ‘Talk Radio’???), it just went south.

I can’t stand Oliver Stone, but I will give the movie a chance.

Shaia LeBeouf. LOL! Charlie Sheen is a total idiot but he was a cute kid in the original.

All the people from CNBC they will be using suck. The only good ones on GE/Sharia/Saudi network are Rick Santelli, Bob Pisani and the guy on Fast Money Guy Adami. Jeff Mackey who had problems and was on Fast Money was pretty good too.

The rest on CNBC are as bad as Cramer.

Mark haines is good when he’s there. Joe kernen and david caber are good as well. Carl “the red” quintinilla and Steve “Obama shill” liesman are terrible. Erin burnett two thumbs up. John harwood just needs to wipe the Obama ejac off of his face before he comes on camera.

Major fail on Fox.

They should be promoting their own business network instead of the competition.

In Oliver’s Stoned’s doped out Marxist reality, Fidel Castro and Hugo Chavez are NOT evil Communist dictators.

Wall Street was agit prop crap selling the “80s” lie/line that “Greed is Good”. That mantra is much more applicable to Clinton’s 1990s where investors opposed the impeachment of Bill Clinton because it could be bad for the market.

As the Obama town hall showed on Monday, CNBC is quite experienced in fictional portrayals.

Haines, Kernen and Faber are good.

I think Joe, Haines, Bill ???(forget his name) and Sue H were all originals from the old Financial News Network which was in S Calif. It was a little local cable show. GE/NBC bought it and moved them to NJ.

Guy Adami’s deadpan on Fast Money is great. Jeff Mackey and he were great with Guy.

I don’t care. Why they are in the movie is beyond me. Charlie Sheen is in the movie for a very short time. He might be an idiot but he is a great comedic actor. Have you seen him on Two and a half men? It is a good show and now he is making 250K an episode. Not bad for an idiot.
