I accept the results of Saturday’s election as we all move forward to support our Republican nominee, John Willoughby. I offer my congratulations to Mr. Willoughby and his campaign and supporters and wish him the very best in his efforts to unseat Mazie Hirono in November

They seem to be concentrating on District 1.

To be honest, I haven’t even heard of him. I had read up on Ramsey Wharton and would have voted for her but I crossed over because I think Neil is more beatable and also less in the pocket of the local union bosses. I suspect I wasn’t the only Republican to do so.

the only way they will win CD 1 is to show solidarity and FIGHT for both CD1 & CD 2 , as a team and a united front .

If they do not do this , they will lose both .

No automatic concession to Hirono !
She is one of the worst of the worse House Progressive Liberals .

To surrender to her re-election without a fight is shameful
and a national Republican disgrace

I also thought Neil is gonna be easier to beat. Mufi’s voters are more likely to cross over and vote for Duke. Not to mention the bulk of Pacific Islanders (esp. Samoan, whose boy was defeated) who may feel comfortable voting for their own.
This probably the first time the Dhims (or of any party, for that matter) have two male haoles on their ticket. It’ll be interesting how they fare against a Hawaiian / Filipina ticket.

Very true. And Lynn Finnegan’s really good. I almost think she’d be better at the top of the ticket.

Ramsay Wharton:

John Willoughby:

Well, it's clear that GOP voters in HI-02 did not make their decision based on looks . . . .

Wharton used a photo that is nearly 20 years old

We all looked better then , but it’s disingenuous

yes, except for her vote for Islam Day last year . a fact conveniently swept under the rug by HI GOP and kept there by as many people as possible . To cast a bad vote such as that one is one thing , but to do so as the supposed leader of the State House Republican caucus is entirely another . Where is the ‘leadership’ in that ?
And again , no public statement of regret , contrition , or even an explanation why . I think this is becoming SOP for the HRP

Hmmm. I was not aware of that. Don’t think my husband knew either. Something worth asking her about. My kids graduated from the same high school she did (Hanalani - extremely conservative!) which makes that particular vote even stranger. Temporary insanity perhaps?

as mentioned : effectively swept under the rug.....

Hawaii Votes .org

But this is by-gones now ! The main thing is to fully gather , study , organize and publicly expose the voting records of both former rep. Neil Abercrombie when he as in Congress and that of Rep Mazie Hirono who is still in Congress .

If we the people AND the Hawaii Republican party fail to do that we are going to lose , big time . And we will deserve exactly what we get because we failed to fight them and fight them hard

To be fair to Wharton, I didn’t take that picture from her campaign website; it was one of the top hits in Google Image when I searched her name, and she looked too cute in it not to pick it out.

Agreed. Neil and Mazie are so far to the left they’ve gone round the bend. Who’s running against Djou? We’ve donated to him but can’t vote for him. Our son is in his district and does, however.

Djou runs against Colleen Hanabusa
a self-avowed Obama minion ,she has said she will vote in lockstep with anything and everything the President requires of her . A mindless Obamadroid .

Of course Djou is not the brightest bulb in the pack either .
I can’t understand why we cant do better in the candidates dept ?

Wharton herself promoted that very photo all over the place .
Then you meet her in person and think “ Put on a little weight lately , have we ? “

I know politicians are always trying to put their best foot forward , but that’s disingenuous

I can see why she would like to use that photo (she looks absolutely gorgeous in it), but if she really doesn’t look like that anymore it’s counterproductive for her to use the picture.
