I have a quote by Jefferson that lists the levels of governments responsibilities. He said: To let the National Government be entrusted with the defense of the nation, and its foreign and federal relations.....

I don't see a lot of control of states in that.

This is certainly an improvement. But...Even if government school districts were the size of a suburban subdivision or the size of a city block they still have all the problems of government schooling.

It would still be socialist-funded, compulsory, government owned and run, a price-fixed monopoly cartel, and godless.

Also...Government schools ( even if the districts with the size of a city block) are in complete conflict with First Amendment Rights ( both federal and state). Once in a compulsory attendance godless government school the child's speech, press, association, and free practice of religion would be strictly curtailed by the government.
