Three teenagers beat up a 17-year-old Saturday afternoon, then opened fire on the victims father using a machine pistol, police said.
No one was injured and the boys fled before police got there. Officers recovered the weapon hidden in a nearby garage, El Cajon police Lt. Ron Smithson said.
Several residents called police to report hearing a burst of gunfire at 2:10 p.m. in an alley behind Millar Avenue, about a block west of El Cajon Boulevard.
Smithson said officers were told the 17-year-old was on El Cajon Boulevard, near a liquor store, when three boys approached him and demanded money. When they found out he had little or no cash on him, they beat him up.
The 17-year-old ran home and told his father and some other relatives, who went looking for the three assailants, Smithson said.
He said the adults found the three teens in the alley and confronted them. One of the teens pulled a machine pistol, similar to a Mac-11, out of his shorts and began firing. Then the three boys ran away.
Officers recovered the pistol, which a neighbor found stashed under her garage door that was open a few inches. Police also found five 9mm rounds in the alley.

If someone is going to shoot at me, I hope it is with a machine pistol! They belong mostly in the category of movie props, and not in the category of deadly weapons.
At least they used the correct name. That’s a rare thing for the press.
Stay classy Whale’s Vagina.
Police only found five shell casings? Sounds like a semi-automatic pistol to me.
El Cajon and the Boulevard have been deteriorating for years. Anytime you see that many cheap hookers on the streets, you know there has to be drugs, automatic weapons and probably gangs.
I imagine a machine pistol would make a pretty darn effective room broom
The HK MP5 is a wicked little gun
There’s a reason machine pistols are not found on target ranges.
I think there’s one mistake on your chart: that last “AK-47” is actually an SUV.

He had to have had one, though. Otherwise, it wouldn't have been legal.
Muslims? Amish? Cherokee? Anarcticans?
What about the kid that was beaten up?
I thought MP stood for machine pistol
Read that some true machine pistols were not that controable under full auto
I’m very sorry to hear about El Cajon’s decline. I suppose it was never exactly classy, but I grew up there, in Fletcher Hills, and would still hope that there are some safe and happy middle class streets in the valley itself.
For those unfamiliar with it, El Cajon is an inland suburb of San Diego, located in a valley that gets a little hot in the summer.
Control and effectiveness of these weapons depends on the skill of the operator.
I suppose they mean spent cartridges -- but just five? From a fully-automatic weapon?
“The HK MP5 is a wicked little gun”
I’ve fired the Mac 10, Mac 11 and the MP5. MP5 hands down. The other two were Jam-o-matics. It may have been the ammo.
