...Following United Flight 175s crash into the South Tower of the World Trade Center, America and the world learned that two loaded jetliners did not accidentally fly into these Towers filled with vibrant, resourceful, and brave Americans. 9/11 was the work of radical Islamists, including the 19 hijackers, the Taliban who gave them haven, support from global private and clandestine sources, and Al-Qaeda, led by Osama bin Laden.
After the attack, President Bush vowed revenge on the terrorists and those who harbored them, but also distinguished Islam and ordinary Muslims from the terrorists who murdered 3000 people...However, to deny that there is a small but sizeable yet potent portion of Muslims who seek transnational caliphate under Sharia-based law, religious freedom abolished, womens and gay rights curtailed, and an ideologically vanguard political order, accomplished through violence against infidels, is to deny reality. Islamist terrorism is the worlds greatest danger today, being responsible for deadly attacks on every inhabited continent, with deadlier attacks more widespread than other ideological terrorisms. The actors seek similar ends, acting not only in US allied countries, such as Britain, Spain, Jordan, and Egypt, but also in countries which have little to no connection with US foreign policy or Israel, such as Sudan, Algeria, Indonesia, Russia, and China...Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf, has come under fire regarding his planned Park51 project, a 13 story mosque and cultural center two blocks from Ground Zero. Rauf has attempted portray himself as a moderate who opposes radicalism. However, his words and opinions call into question his moderation, and thus sensitivity for the victims of September 11, their families, friends, and their compatriots.

It’s a fair article, but I submit if there were a true difference between “ordinary” muslims and terrorists, we’d see ordinary muslims protesting en masse in the streets against terrorism. To date this hasn’t happened.
exert, perhaps they are intimidated/terrified of being targeted by those radical Muslims.
Please read up a bit, or at least ponder the reasons the she’s and the Sunnis have been slaughtering each other for years.
And don’t forget the fate of the Kurds in Northern Afghanistan under Saddam.
Please don’t be taken in by the protestations of “peace” by various imams, mullahs, and Islamic spokespeople.
When these say Islam is a religion of Peace, ask yourself why they are always killing each other?
Also know that you must add on a bit more to that phrase ( religion of peace ) when you hear it, for there is a whispered sub text.
And this is.... “as soon as everyone converts to Islam and Sharia law is established, everywhere.”
Moderate Rauf?
Probably means he will ask you to convert twice before chopping off your head.
This is a great article but, offers nothing new. If you think about it, the debate is over: The majority of the Americans are offended by the Mosque and simply want it moved down the road out of simple respect.
The only thing that remains now is how this all plays out. To build the thing will only invite more tension into an already raw situation. The Imam who leads this task is obviously a very spiteful man. No good soul would throw salt on a such an open wound.
Ultimately there may be no good solution. Given all that I’ve seen of the Muslim religion (death threats, rages over cartoons, stoning, Iraniann nut job leaders), I’m inclined to error on the side of safety and western sanity and prevent building the damn thing by any means necessary. Ideally, our bureaucracy buries it in paperwork, regulations, and inspections (maybe they’ll even find some Indian Burial ground at the site) but, if we have to go there hand in hand and stand on the work site, I’ll do that too.
At some point, a stand has to be taken...the religious freedom issue not withstanding. I suspect it will piss off the radical muslims but, 1-they are always pissed off. 2- Building the damn thing won’t make them happy, anyway. 3-It’s about time the Muslim world learns that temper tantrums will get them no where.
In short: The Muslims don’t get to win this one. Not this time. Not today. Not ever. Build your Mosque somewhere else and leave western culture alone.
The majority of the Americans are offended by the Mosque and simply want it moved down the road out of simple respect.
True, but I think the muslims are watching this closely because to them, if we cave on this its as good as admitting that america has given up and we’ll be as easy to take over as europe.
this little issue has large consequences. I believe that if we, the american people, win this issue it will send a large message to muslims that america is not willing to totally roll over.
