The big cities have lots of people who will always vote Democrat because either they have been convinced that Republicans hate people of their race, or else they fear that the Religious Right will come to power, outlaw all forms of fun and make people spend Sundays listening to 4-hour-long sermons in church.

The curious thing is the absence of a countervailing force--why aren't there any conservative-leaning big city papers or large-circulation magazines? Only the Wall Street Journal editorial page (not the news columns) has a large circulation and is conservative, but much of the public would never think of reading it.

I used to live in a city of 100,000 whose local paper was reliably part of the MSM. It had some local content (mostly on the sports page) but generally just reprinted the AP. I left that city (and it has since gone even farther downhill than it already was) to move to a town of 30,000, whose local paper..you’ve read that already. The current local paper is certainly in its death throes and is only kept afloat because it is part of a chain. It and when that chain goes under so will the local paper, I think.

God willing, of course.
