Mavis Moore was 4 years old the first time she faced the barrel of a long gun. A neighbour pointed his .22 at the girl and her mother when they stopped by to pick up a newspaper in their small Saskatchewan town.
Sixty-eight years later, Moore remembers dropping one blue angora mitten in the snow as the man stood above them on his steps.
“You can't imagine what it's like, this adult man having a gun on you and threatening to kill you and your mother,” she says.
Moore's mother picked up her child — and the mitten — and left. She never said anything to anyone, fearing the violence would escalate. It was the first time Moore was at risk from a man pointing a gun, but not the last.
Decades later, a fellow hunter aimed his cocked rifle at her in the northern Saskatchewan bush. He told her he mistook her 5-foot-4 frame, draped in red, for a moose.
Guns are a constant in the lives of rural Canadian women — one reason many of them as are as committed to gun control and the gun registry as their urban sisters. As the third-reading vote on a Tory backbencher's private bill that would kill the registry draws near, members of a coalition of rural and urban women, shelter advocates and victims of violent crime are telling their stories. They want to counter the misinformation and political manoeuvring they contend obscure the real issue: safety.

More of an example of how a few hystericals get a big news exposure that they do not deserve.
They have a hard time believing that all the gun control laws would have no impact on whether stupid people and criminals would obey them, yet many folks would be killed or maimed by those same laws.
The leftist propaganda just never stops.

Pure bias - article could just as easily feature a woman who prevented rape or saved her family with a pistol.

Violent crime in the US dropped for the third straight year in 2009. At the same time requests for Instant Criminal Background checks prior to firearms purchase hit an all time high. No one can convince me that the two are not connected.
Does that sound like they were attempting to steal the neighbor's paper to anyone else?

Whenever a lefty rants about Gun Control, I respond very calmly:
1) Shouldn’t women have the right to protect themselves from abusive men??
2) Shouldn’t women have the right to protect themselves from the rabid anti-Roe vs Wade crowd when exercising their reproductive rights??
3) Doesn’t the GAY community deserve the right to protect themselves from red-neck racists who will always get a gun like druggies always find a fix??
4) Don’t you want to protect yourself from the Christian Taliban led by Sarah Palin who want to establish a Theocracy??
5) Shouldn’t minorities be able to protect themselves from racist Tea Party members??
I recall a Mark Steyn column which recounted an incident at an Eastern Canadian university where an armed man invaded a college classroom. He ordered the few men in the room to leave (which they dutifully did) and then I believe he murdered a few of the coeds. Steyn was decrying the wussification of Canadian men. If that is the case, the women need even more rights to protect themselves.
Right after Reconstruction, and again during the KKK period, many southern rural blacks kept their homes and families safe by keeping a shotgun close by.
More on the left need to know this simple historical fact.

They have chosen to ignore that fact. The primary driver for early gun control efforts was to keep that rural black man from having a shotgun when they came to lynch him.

So. Two folks who live way outside of society, probably for good reason in this case, possibly on something or drunk, point weapons at folks they either don’t know or don’t like, and that means all men hate women and will use guns to kill them. Okay, then.
Prohibition of guns would not have stopped the tragedy at that university. But concealed carry would have.
The left needs to understand that the US, and Canada for that matter, is not a country like Japan.
In Japan, if the Emperor says turn in your guns, everyone turns in their guns.
Well, that just won’t happen here. And to those on the left who don’t see this, I’d say just look at the history of Prohibition of alcohol.
