Murkowski Will Run As Write-In
Hotline on Call ^ | 09/17/2010 | Reid Wilson and Dan Friedman

Posted on 09/17/2010 1:51:10 PM PDT by iowamark

Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) will run for re-election as a write-in candidate after losing her bid for renomination, according to sources briefed on Murkowski's decision.

Murkowski's decision will set up a 3-way battle between the incumbent, Miller and Sitka Mayor Scott McAdams (D), potentially turning the race on its head. Private 3-way polling has shown Miller leading, but by a narrow margin.

Murkowski will make the formal announcement tonight in Anchorage. She has been mulling her options after losing to attorney Joe Miller (R) by 1.8% -- or about 2K votes out of 110K cast.

Miller won with the backing of the Tea Party Express and former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R). The Tea Party Express spent hundreds of thousands of dollars criticizing Murkowski's legislative accomplishments, and Palin campaigned against her rival in the race's closing days.

She has not formally said she will run, but her campaign is inviting reporters to call in. Murkowski spokespeople were not immediately available for comment Friday afternoon.

Campaign volunteers have been inviting supporters to a "kick-off" event tonight, the Anchorage Daily News reported this afternoon. And in comments to the paper on Thursday, Murkowski certainly sounded like a candidate.

"I'm not much of a poker player, but the analogy I've been using is that I'm sitting there and I've been dealt a six and an eight," Murkowski told the paper. "I'm not much of a poker player, but the analogy I've been using is that I'm sitting there and I've been dealt a six and an eight. But it is possible."

The NRSC has said it will back Miller, even though Murkowski is a member of Senate GOP leadership. NRSC communications director Brian Walsh referred inquiries to a statement the committee released last night and refused to elaborate further.

Clearly, she thinks she can throw this away from Miller. But I wouldn’t be so sure about that. The only people who will write her in are the bitter-enders who are so angry they would probably vote for the Dem to spite the pubbies for not renominating her. In other words, she may draw from them rather than Miller.

“The Miller campaign should print up a bunch of signs with Lisa’s name misspelled (”Merkowski”) and put them around in high-traffic areas.”

LOL

John Cornyn MADE A PROMISE.

And that has to be the point. Tinfoil hat time. The RINOs on the hill are reeling after the backlash from last Tuesday. Rove is catching flack, donations are going direct to the candidates rather than to the party. Even Snowe was sounding apologetic this afternoon. There is real terror in RINO town this evening.

So they need to prove they aren't the enemy of the tea party and that what they did in Delaware wasn't against the Tea Party but was actually about having an electable candidate. So they have Murkowski announce she is a wright in that has absolutely no chance, and then stomp her in a very public way. Then they can all say "See we were just supporting the most electable candidate". Rove can go on Hanity and say "See this time I backed Joe Miller and the Tea Party". And Murkowski gets a cushy job at some RINO think tank when this is all over.

What a cunning stunt.”

Pissed & stupid—a deadly combination in this election year especially.

How many reputations and honorable standings have been thrown willingly down the toilet since obamanation wormed its way into the country??? Both on the right and left!

Of course this deceiver, just as specter and crist and castle, will loose but the point for them is not the loosing. It is the revenge. It is personal. It is not about the good of the party and certainly NOT about the good of the country. They couldn’t care less about either. The party and the country were both vessels to an end for these self-seeking egotistic frauds. They are so burning with bruised egos that they are willing to set fire to everything, themselves included, just to get the satisfaction of destroying their opponents as well.

TRULY SHAME ON THEM. THEY ARE MORE THAN DISGUSTING. THEY ARE A PERVERSIONS.

I do not think Murkowski will split the Republican vote. I think she will split the liberal vote, none of whom were voting for Joe Miller anyway. Rockefeller Republicans who couldn’t stomach pulling the lever for a real conservative like Joe Miller and would have, openly or not, voted for the Democrat, will now have the option of voting for Murkowski. How many GOP voters who would otherwise have voted for Miller are now going to vote for Murkowski? I can’t think it will be too many.

By the way, a lot of voters would mess up the spelling of Murkowski on a write-in. Does spelling count? Or will the machine bring up Al Franken vote counters from Minnesota to count similar-sounding names, like Smith or Jones?

The GOP leadership, at this point, should strip her of any and all leadership assignments, committee appointments, and throw her out of their caucus. They should also sue her, and her campaign for any monies remaining in her campaign fund donated by and through them. Like that would ever happen.

Scientisits can probably prove that, evolutionarily speaking, GOP leaders evolved the same time as jellyfish. No backbone.

I suspect that they did not do this without extensive polling and analysis of how it would affect the outcome. Having said that I would be surprised if this doesn’t hurt the dems. Possibly they decided that they had nothing to lose because Miller was going o walk away with it anyway. Personally I think the GOP should put this in their bag of tricks.
