Not arguing for or against - but curious about one thing. If the drug cartels are willing to use car bombs in Mexico, willing to kill as many as they have, and are pretty much willing to take on the Mexican Army, how do you predict they will react when they lose the vast majority of their income to legalization in the US?

Allowing the situation to continue is unacceptable ... Humans consume substances that alter their minds ... it is unfortunate that government started to "protect us from ourselves" and ones ability to make decisions on his/her own became unacceptable.
Depriving the cartels of their money will hit them hard and they most likely will not be to happy (hitting ones fiances always has an effect $$$ is how one produces weapons to fight with) but without a sufficient border fence we will not be safe from spill over violence anyway so what does it matter?
The cartel members are not good people, and as it has been reported, they will do anything for money ... With money comes power.
