Dem committee cancels ad buys for Pomeroy (North Dakota Rep)
Grand Forks Herald ^ | 15 September 2010 | Ryan Johnson

A Democratic committee’s decision to pull advertising money it planned to spend in North Dakota has state Republicans claiming Rep. Earl Pomeroy was “cut loose” after months of running behind Republican challenger Rick Berg in the polls.

But that’s “absolutely not” the case, Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee spokeswoman Jennifer Crider said, and the group remains committed to help Pomeroy as he vies for a 10th term in the U.S. House.

It looks like North Dakotans are finally figuring out the cost of voting themselves pork by p*ssing in the nation's water supply. Pomeroy voted for ObamaCare.

Looks like they’ll throw Pomeroy under the bus, but do it with a kindly smile! “Hey, thanks for voting for Obamacare, Pomeroy! Sorry we can’t give you any money, but you have our best thanks for your service to the party!”

It is more than that. When Dorgan, Conrad, and Pomeroy are back home talking to the Rotary or Chamber of Commerce they come across as pro locally owned business (they all love to rant about out of state corporations). They sound reasonable. Some 20 years I heard Dorgan speak at the commissioning ceremony of the son of a friend who had just graduated from West Point. Dorgan waxed eloquently about the military and this young man’s future. That speech would have made Jim Robinson and most all Freepers pround.
That is why these guys got re-elected all of the time.

But not this time-Dorgan is out and Pomeroy will most likely lose. People tied both of them to Obama and the left-wing of the Democrat party.

I covered one of Dorgan's speeches for the campus newspaper when he was still the state tax commissioner and preparing to make his first run for the state's lone congressional seat.

One of the key topics of that talk was the future of nuclear energy and what it would mean for an energy rich state like North Dakota. Dorgan asked the audience to raise their hands in support of three different positions:

  1. Those who thought nuclear energy was a proven resource and we should proceed with development full speed ahead.
  2. Those who had questions and felt we should proceed slowly and cautiously.
  3. Those who thought the dangers of nuclear energy outweighed the potential benefits and we should shelve development and work on other alternatives.

The audience was divided roughly one-third each. Dorgan then went on to give a spirited defense of each position without actually taking one himself.

As part of my assignment to cover that speech, I solicited random comments from the attendees after the talk was over. Almost to a person, they felt Dorgan had sided with their position. I knew the guy was going places then, but the state has had 30 years to wise up since and are only now beginning to do so.
