Critics assail the US Department of the Interior's draft policy on scientific integrity.
If there is one thing about Barack Obama's US presidency that has warmed the hearts of scientists, it is his March 2009 memo on scientific integrity. It seemed to signal a break from alleged political interference with science, and suggested that the incoming government would put sound science at the centre of policy-making. But the first draft policy on scientific integrity from a federal agency, released by the Department of the Interior (DOI) on 31 August, has drawn a storm of criticism from watchdogs including the Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS), based in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
-snip-
The DOI responded with their draft policy, open for public comment until 20 September. Among its stated objectives is protecting the public "from the effects of inaccurate information", but a sticking point for critics is a section that seems to let political appointees at the top of the agency off the hook if they alter scientific documents. The policy says that "decision-makers may be involved in editing of documents for clarification of major points to aid decision-making". This is loaded language for critics who say that it leaves the door open to political interference.

Interior has been producing junk science for decades justifying “endangered species” status. They ran a “scientist” out her who suddenly decided the common field mouse on the Front Range was a “species” that of course was “endangered” by development. Come to find out he’s their designated hit man when they want to be sure whatever animal they look at is declared an “endangered species.”
You see, here’s the thing...Premier Hussein is the least qualified person in any room he enters, and if we took everything he knows about science and shoved it up an ant’s ass, it would rattle around like a BB in the Superdome.
In any case, when Premier Hussein refers to “Sound Science”, he is referring to “Politically Correct Science” that would have brought a tear to the eye of George Orwell, and might even have impressed Stalin (although old Joe probably knew as much about real Science as Barry-Hoi does...).
“[Obama] seemed to signal a break from alleged political interference with science, and suggested that the incoming government would put sound science at the centre of policy-making.”
Anything the ‘bammer utters, contemplates, references or touches in any way instantly becomes a tool for advancing his political agenda-he knows nothing else.
Stalin’s scientific dream was to create an army of ape-men with no conscience.

When I read this: “protecting the public “from the effects of inaccurate information””, I immediately thought of Orwell. It is chilling.
Who will be doing the editing? John “Junk Science” Edwards and Al “Carbon Neutral” Gore?
Uncle Joe supported the crackpot pseudo-scientific doctrine of Lysenko, just as the Left today supports the crackpot pseudo-scientific doctrine of anthropogenic global warming, and the doctrine that only embryonic stem cells are of potential use.
“....if we took everything he knows about science and shoved it up an ants ass, it would rattle around like a BB in the Superdome”...
