BARNSTABLE - A doctor was sentenced yesterday to six months in jail and was led out of court in handcuffs after pleading guilty to involuntary manslaughter in the case of a woman who died after he performed an abortion on her.

Dr. Rapin Osathanondh was sentenced in the 2007 death of Laura Hope Smith, 22, of Sandwich. He pleaded guilty Monday.

“You, sir, destroyed a precious flower that grew and ... blossomed in our lives, not accidentally, but purposely,” said Tom Smith, Laura’s father, looking at Osathanondh.

“No family should have to go through this,” said Laura’s mother, Eileen, who said her faith in the medical community has been shattered.

Osathanondh will be eligible for parole in three months, followed by nine months of home confinement. He had faced up to 20 years. He is banned from practicing or teaching medicine ever again.

Glad to see he's jailed. But it would be nice if he could have been charged with premeditated murder. Not for the death of Laura Hope Smith, which was unplanned (I think), but rather for the intentional murder of her baby.

Maybe some day...

She died having an abortion...Purposely.

Lord have mercy on the mother who would kill her baby and especially on the innocent unborn human who they murdered.

Six-months for an accidental manslaughter in the process of an intentional murder. That’s three-months per death ... one-and-a-half months per death for parole.

Seems fair.

Indeed. “Precious flowers” typically do not engage in contract killing.

Abortion doctor”? I thought the correct term was “abortionist”.

Wondering why Laura’s parents aren’t concerned about the death of their grandchild, too..............

Ok, this is the most UNREGULATED medical procedure going!
So why is anyone surprised and/or outraged?
Here, in the great state of VA, our beloved AG is catching all kinds of crap for proposing that abortion clinics have to meet the same standards as medical facilities.
But, nooooooooo. We have to let women be used by men, the libs, “feminist” women and abortion clinics just to retain a “RIGHT TO PRIVACY”...God forbid they should be protected by regulatory laws that keep this kind of botching from happening!
As a dim woman was quoted, “Better to lose your life for a “cause” than lose the “right”...”

Justice, sweet justice. The only thing better would be to see him lit up on an electric chair for murdering so many children.

And wasn’t one of the planks of the feminists’ pro-abort argument that women were dying from illegal abortions (e.g., coathangers)?

Aren’t they the least bothered by the deaths that occur from “legal” abortions?

Good, good point!
Definitely OK to be hanged on the “cross” of unlimited access to unregulated abortion...
