The National Republican Senatorial Committee is running its first ad of the election cycle in Kentucky, where GOP Senate candidate Rand Paul faces state Democratic candidate Attorney General Jack Conway.

The attack ad, a black-and-white film that resembles an old-time news reel, show pictures of a horse race and a voice-over that says Mr. Conway is riding on the back of President Obama and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and their failed policies.

KEYWORDS:

"I am proud to support great grassroots candidates like Dr. Paul....
Because he’s a federalist and he wants the states to have more say --
and as we respect the 10th Amendment in our Constitution,
he wants the states to have more say in a lot of these issues."
~~ Governor Sarah Palin

"I'm endorsing Rand Paul because he's a true conservative who will stand up to the Washington establishment. Rand has been running on the issues that matter since the beginning of this campaign. He's a strong advocate for balanced budgets, he wants to end the culture of earmarks, he supports term limits, and he's 100% pro-life. Rand is exactly the kind of leader Americans are looking for right now. He's not a career politician and he's got the guts to stand up to the massive spending, bailouts, and debt that are being forced on us in Washington. ~~ Senator Jim DeMint, chairman of the Senate Conservatives Fund

How else can you get the knife in there if you’re not behind him?

I guess it’s before the caffine has kicked in—but I sure don’t understand your post. What in the heck are you trying to say?

When O’Donnell is up 10 with one week to go the (R) hacks will get behind her too.

DEMOCRAT---THE ULTIMATE EPITHET

That reminds me of a great Rand anecdote: Rand Paul was debating his opponent who called Rand an “extremist.”

Without hesitation, Rand shot back, “You’re a Democrat.”

Hey, it's money. Conservatives have been telling the NRSC for years now "not one thin dime", and that we would support our own candidates.

So it's a surprise whenever we can get them to support our conservatives. It's not like they have an infinite amount of money, we've been starving them out.

Meanwhile, we can take all the money we didn't send to the NRSC, and fund the candidates we like. Like O'Donnell in Delaware. And Rand Paul, if he actually needs the money anymore with his solid lead.

I had not heard that; I love it; thanks. :-)

The NRSC is interested in no more than backing a winner. If Paul were in a dead heat they’d act like he had leprosy. It takes a 10 point plus lead for a conservative to get their support and *maybe* approval.

Make no mistake. As most here know, we are at war with the GOP establishment nearly to the same degree as the Democrats.

Even better-—Rand’s numbers shot up to a 15 point lead after the quip.

It's no time to get complacent; but it does note in the article that the NRSC chose to run ads on Paul's behalf this early, in order to shore up Paul's lead enough that they can spend GOP money on more closely-contested races in the "battleground States" as Election Day draws nearer.

Hopefully true, and hopefully how it will play out.

I'm not unaware of the problems with the GOP leadership, but I'm still happy to see them supporting Paul.

I think they're going to be sorely disappointed if they think they can count on getting Paul in their "pocket", though. If Rand Paul is going to be in anyone's "pockets", it's going to be with Palin and DeMint, not McCain and McConnell.

As always, IMHO.

Wasn’t Rand Paul a few months ago another “unelectable” candidate that no one in their right minds could support?

I’m glad they are helping, too. But I have no illusions about their character or motivations.

I’d be a lot happier if they would make a sincere effort to support the conservatives in close races.

Yeah... I think there's enough "unelectable" conservative candidates winning their Primaries, that we're going to have to call it "Unelection Day".

Then, come January, all our Un-Electable Un-Candidates can proceed to Un-Vote all of Obama's previous legislation. Heh.

True.

Not going to happen, but I grok.

The morning after he won the primary it was a slimefest by the lib media. My BIL in Florida (believes everything on CNN) told me he thought Paul was a wacky extremist that day.
