Rove's too smart for it not to have been calculated. What's is his goal ?

Castle had a nice, safe Congressional seat and wasn't (iirc) looking at any sort of primary challenger for it.

He had to be talked into seeking the Senate seat. My guess is that Rove was influential in getting him to go for it, possibly telling him that he'd be unopposed in the primary and win Biden's seat in a walkover.

Instead, Castle had a serious primary challenger who won ... effectively sending him into retirement.

Rove, and the other GOP leadership who convinced Castle to run for Senate now have major egg on their faces and are clearly angry - on a personal/credibility level - at the O'Donnell win. But they shouldn't have promised anything they couldn't deliver on, and Castle should have done a hell of a lot more due diligence before choosing to give up his Congressional seat to try for Biden's Senate one.

OTOH, (and perhaps on the bright side) Biden and his son are probably incredibly pissed as well. Biden Jr. decided not to run because he bet he'd have to run against, and lose to, Castle. They'd undoubtedly figure that a race against O'Donnell would be an easy win ...

Now the reality of the situation sets in. IF this is a wise move to choose O'Donnell for the nominee, you'll know Nov. 2. I hope it is BUT now everyone must begin to realize that it will be futile unless she wins Nov. 2. This means she needs the vote of every person that also voted for Castle plus independents and some Democrats.

It's time to stop sniping and get to courting the votes needed.
