WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A conservative "Tea Party" favorite knocked off the establishment choice in Delaware's Republican Senate primary election on Tuesday, dealing a blow to the party's chances to recapture the U.S. Senate in November.

Upstart Republican candidate Christine O'Donnell scored the biggest in a string of Tea Party upsets this year over nine-term Representative Michael Castle, a popular former governor and one of the last Republican moderates in Congress.

The loss by Castle, who had been expected to cruise to victory in Delaware's November 2 election, gave Democrats new hope in the state and bolstered their chances to retain control of the Senate.

A Tea Party favorite was a close second as votes were being counted in New Hampshire's Republican primary and another Tea Party-backed candidate easily won New York's Republican gubernatorial race.

National and state Republicans had rushed in recent weeks to help Castle, worried O'Donnell could not win the November race for the Democratic Senate seat long held by Vice President Joe Biden.

"The people of Delaware have spoken. No more politics as usual," O'Donnell told supporters at a victory rally. "The cause is restoring America."

Castle is the eighth Senate candidate supported by the national Republican campaign committee to lose a primary this year and the result was perhaps the biggest display yet of anti-Washington anger.

The string of victories by Tea Party candidates was fueled by broad voter dissatisfaction with President Barack Obama and government in Washington, and left Republicans in turmoil.

There is no difference between a Democrat and a RINO. They are one and the same, so a win for Castle would have been a win for Democrats. Reuters certainly wouldn't have published:

"Republican win hurts Democrats' Senate chances"

This victory is sweet.

The ultimate irony is that Scott Brown, the guy who started this whole tea pary craze in MA is likely to be primaried in 2012 for being a RINO. He’s on notice. He now has two yrs to get with the program.

Castle also suffered from bad timing. The DE primary was at the very end of the summer. All these other tea party wins in KY, UT, NV, AK, etc... all piled up and built momentum.

If DE had their primary back in June like NJ or May like PA Castle would have won easily.

The left doesn’t get it.

They are in denial re the state of our society, as well as in denial re the upcoming election.

RINOs are worse than Dems - they give Dems “bilateral cover”.

Even more ironic then that Demint is one of her biggest backers.

You will notice that there is no difference between the MSM and the beltway boys on their attacks - especially ad hominem attacks - against O’Donnell and other Tea Party candidates.

(sniffle) It brings a tear to my eye to see the Dems so troubled about the Repubs' "diminished" chances to take over the Senate.

The republican party said they weren’t interested in winning...so now it’s conservatives that are seeking to take over congress.

“RINOs are worse than Dems - they give Dems “bilateral cover””

Precisely.

The liberals are attacking from both sides of the aisle. Our strategy is to eliminate the Right that is on the wrong.

Chris Coons never expected to come within 10 points of Mike Castle. That’s why he was the ONLY RAT who even ran! Does he have secrets and skeletons? He better hope not, because we are going to FINE THEM within the next few days and weeks. Coons is WEAK. Christine can beat him. This is what the vile RINOs in the NRSC just can’t comprehend. History is going to leave Mike Steal and John Cornhole in the dust!

Within the next 24 hours, expect a fatwa to be issued against Palin, Miller and O’Donnell.

“Iman Rove” and “Iman Steele” will sign the order with baby moose blood.

Come senators, congressmen, please heed the call
Don’t stand in the doorway, don’t block up the halls
For he that gets hurt will be he that has stalled
There’s a battle outside and it’s raging
It’ll soon shake your windows and rattle your walls
For the times, they are a-changin’

They want the RINOs because they’ll vote their way and are opportunists — they have NO core beliefs.

RINOs get out of the way. Support true conservatives or go vote for the Demmunists.

Tea Party Express continues to roll!

“Christine can beat him.”

I have been reading for the past few days, and especially today, from some Freepers as well as the press that O’Donnell doesn’t stand a chance.

Well, not only did O’Donnell win, but her victory was not a squeaker. She is the clear winner.

O’Donnell may very well be the next senator for DE.

One thing is clear. This year they really don’t have a clue who is going to win anything. Their hand picked candidates are all losing. Makes them all very nervous. Look how they all wrote Palin off when she resigned.

What really terrifies the professional Republicans is not just the Tea Party, but Sarah Palin. Every candidate that she endorses that wins is another potential supporter if she decides to run in 2112. They want a nice “safe” establishement suit like Romney who will play ball with them and not rock the boat. They would rather let the Dems keep the Senate and even the White House than lose control of the party to “those people”, as Murkowski and Castle refer to the Tea Party activists.

“Within the next 24 hours, expect a fatwa...”

Assuming one hasn’t already been issued.

Make no mistake about it, Palin, O’Donnell, Miller, and their like party candidates are in the cross-hairs and if you thought the MSM and beltway boys were ruthless, you haven’t seen nothing yet.

Lord have mercy.

If you look at it as a race between two people, she could lose. But, the election is about whether we continue Obamacare, acquire more private companies, waste more money on useless “stimulus”, adopt cap and trade, and eventually lose our Constitution to a socialist fascism. We have to continue to remind voters of the accomplishments of the dems toward that end, and she and other conservatives will win.

It sounds to me like the commie lib piggies in the state run MSM are saying that Americans won’t vote for freedom and liberty anymore. The voters are more interested in keeping the same old, same old. The status quo. The good old boys who think that they know what is better for Americans than Americans do. I guess we’ll find out in November.
