Nearly half a million babies, or about one in ten U.S. births, are born to illegal mothers. But the number of these "anchor babies" increases exponentially when the effects of chain migration are considered. The Fourteenth Amendment states "all persons born or naturalized in the United States, and SUBJECT TO THE JURISDICTION THEREOF, are citizens of the United States..." The drafters of this amendment made it very clear that this was not intended for illegal aliens but ensuring that the children born of freed slaves would be citizens. One of the amendment's proponents, Sen. Jacob Howard, stated that the Citizenship Clause "will not, of course, include persons born in the United States who are foreigners, aliens or the children of foreign ministers accredited to the United States..." The chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee at the time, Lyman Trumbull, explained that: "The provision is, that 'all persons born in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens.' That means NOT OWING ALLEGIANCE TO ANYBODY ELSE. That's what it means." The fact that illegal aliens come here despite our laws and fly Mexican flags in protest is a pretty sure sign that they don't owe sole allegiance to this country, and should not be covered by the 14th Amendment for purpose of citizenship.

As per our talk!
I think it’s time to employ the Castle Doctrine to the USA, as that’s our home and deserves to be protected the same as our personal residence against invasion.
“Anchor babies” aren’t really much of an “anchor” if the statutes are followed (which unfortunately they aren’t). If the rules are followed, the anchor baby cannot sponsor anybody else until he or she is no longer a minor, some 18 years later. This is a slow process and assumes the parents still want to live permanently in America 18 years later. Our chiefest problem is not this, but the fact that almost anybody who waltzes northward across the Rio Grande without so much as a “by your leave” will probably be left alone by the US and state government unless they get themselves in major trouble.
The wording “...subject to the jurisdiction of...” intrigues me. Could the newborn infant of illegal aliens be forcibly removed from the (illegals) parent’s custody by a U.S. court because the parents are unfit parents?
Suppose both were drug dealers, alcoholics, or had no visible means of support—things which have resulted in U.S. citizen parents losing custody of their citizen children. My guess is the ACLU would move heaven and earth to prevent the U.S. court from taking such an action. That would seem to me to say the anchor baby is NOT subject to the “jurisdiction of” the U.S. and therefore cannot be a citizen under the 14th Amendment. Just a thought.
I don't believe I've seen it put in such concise and familiar terms.
Kudos.

A very good thought. Also, it strikes me that because native Americans (Indians) were NOT considered to be birthright citizens until much later congressional action, this would certainly suggest that illegal aliens were not even imagined to have been given that privilege by the authors of the 14th. In the historical context of 1868, when the 14th was ratified, it’s seems very clear that the authors were only concerned about the newly freed slaves and could hardly envision its application to ILLEGAL conduct, e.g., an alien who violated our law by coming here and who happened by chance to have a baby. But now its a political issue and the Left wants all those potential votes! They could care less that we’re now broke (thanks mostly to Obama and his liberal colleagues) and that illegals are adding more billions to our out-of-control deficits.
Let’s face it. We’re now in the situation where we obey only the laws we choose to obey or (mis)interpret them to our liking:
Article.IV., Section. 4. U.S. Constitution:
The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them against Invasion.
The reality is we’re being invaded and the plain English meaning of our Constitution is very clear - and very clearly being IGNORED!
Absolutely! See my post #8. We’re ignoring the Castle Doctrine and aiding and abetting our own destruction. “Civilizations die from suicide, not by murder.” — Arnold Toynbee
