No, Mike Castle Didn't Vote to Impeach President Bush BY Mary Katharine Ham September 14, 2010 2:00 PM

As the Republican primary for the Senate seat from Delaware manages to become even more heated than it's been thus far, the newest charge of O'Donnell backers is that Rep. Mike Castle voted to impeach President George W. Bush.

Those backers are referring to this vote, taken in June 2008. As you can see from the roll call, fully 24 Republicans voted to impeach President Bush, including conservatives like Pete King of New York and Kevin Brady of Texas. One imagines that would have been rather big news had it happened.

But it didn't happen. The vote in question was on a motion to refer Rep. Dennis Kucinich's impeachment resolution to the Judiciary Committee, where most of the Republicans who voted on it calcluated it would die a slow death, with no one willing to give it time in the committee.

And, there it did die. Powerline:

There you have it. Mike Castle never voted to impeach President Bush; no such vote ever occurred on the floor of the House. He did vote to commit goofball Congressman Dennis Kucinich's impeachment resolution to the Judiciary Committee, where it died, as intended, a slow death. And Castle's office said that it opposed impeachment because "they believed there weren't any crimes committed by the Bush administration."

From a contemporaneous news article on the vote (via Jim Geraghty):

More: ”By a 251-166 vote, the House sent the 35-count articles of impeachment to the Judiciary Committee, which is expected to let it die without further action. While the vote technically forces the measure to the committee for consideration, it also means the full House will avoid having to debate and vote on impeaching the 43d president.”

Castle's not conservative, but this accusation is just not true.

Why wasn’t RINO Castle part of the 166 who voted no?

The Weakly Scabbard...owned by NewsCorp/Fox News (whose part owner kikced in 300K for the NYC 9/11 Terrorist Shrine Mosque)...is doing everything to cover up for the Liberal RINO Mike Castle.

I trust Mark Levin over the Liberal RINO Weakly Scabbard

Pete King is a conservative? What is she taking? Didn’t he refuse to vote for the impeachment of Clinton?

Well, there you have it, Delaware conservatives.

Vote for Mike Castle because, after all, he did not try to impeach President Bush!

Castle voted with 227 democrats and 23 RINOs on impeachment. Good riddance to him and his RINO enablers and defenders.

Here we go again, the spin on this one is nauseating, worse than a tiltawhirl ride after eating too many corn dogs.

I just heard Castle is also a child-rapist. He is eating children and newborns for lunch.

No. The Castle campaign slogan appears to be “Forget about my record. I can win!”

Man they musta called up everybody to get them out on this. Rush has been talking about this and now it’s everywhere.

They ain’t gonna win. Castle voted against the Iraq surge, was on some little groupie-do that met with Bush to tell him what a loser he is.....

and he’s only one of 24 Republicans to vote for this thing? But he only did it to help the Republicans, they say. Yeah, right.

You know....stuff it. We’re supposed to believe that Castle voting FOR this thing is a good thing as they pee upon my feet and tell me it’s raining. All day people writing long treatises about this trying to convince us that rain is yellow and pours from clouds in the middle of our bodies.

Maybe if Castle had some kind of halfway decent record for voting FOR a conservtive cause every once in a while I’d give him the benefit of the doubt.

Whatever the case....it’ll all be over soon enough.

They are losing their minds....watch the long dissertations folks put up about this. And watch your shoes and the yellow puddles.

Heh.

Well why the hell don’t you put up a five page dissertation like every other Castle defender by golly?

We’ll all sit and read it and we’ll believe it.

Honest!
