IMO you will ALWAYS be dependent on those big financial institutions.That’s the way international capitalism works.
However, those institutions shouldn't be dependent on Federal monies backing their investments as we had happen during the housing bubble.
Moreover, when the power of the Federal Gov't dimishes, smaller institions gain more power which balances things out so everyone is not as dependent on the financial monsters.
