As part of the book deal then-Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., inked in 2004, Random House today announced the publication of a children’s book by the president, “Of Thee I Sing: A Letter to My Daughters.”

The book will be released on November 16 – roughly two weeks after the midterm elections -- with a 500,000-copy first printing.

“Of Thee I Sing,” which President Obama finished writing in 2008, describes thirteen “groundbreaking Americans and the ideals that have shaped our nation—from the artistry of Georgia O’Keeffe, to the courage of Jackie Robinson, to the patriotism of George Washington,” the publisher said in a statement. It is illustrated by Loren Long.

Initial printing of 500,000....I’m sure there will be a pre-sell to the media outlets...but seriously, does anybody think they’ll sell half a million copies?

Government schools will buy lots of them.
Also teachers unions to distribute.

“but seriously, does anybody think they’ll sell half a million copies?”

How many will the teachers Union buy? And then schools could always declare the book required read and force parents to buy it.

What Bertelsmann Wants from Obama The German publishing company that helped make Obama a rich man has a clear foreign policy agenda.

Bertelsmann owns Random House.

Most of these books are bought by public libraries with taxpayer dollars.

Also from '08....

A European Briefing Book for Barack Obama

The Washington, DC-based Bertelsmann Foundation presented its Trans-Atlantic Briefing Book for the Obama administration on Thursday, 13 November 2008 in the US capital. The Briefing Book is a policy blueprint that offers strategies for foreign-policy cooperation between Europeans and the new American leadership during their first consultations in early 2009.

This is getting interesting...

I have had it with presidents trying to be all soft and fuzzy. Being president must be an easy job since all they do is campaign for other candidates, take vacations, play golf, and spend the rest of their time trying to prove they are regular guys. Why would we want our president wasting his time reading books to kids, writing books for kids, or making appearances at various charity events (the kind where the pol/celebrity/NFL player pretends to paint a house or dish out food)?

Instead of trying to help get the economy going and creating jobs, 0bama has been sitting around writing a children’s book. I don’t know if his wasting time is a good or bad thing, but I tend to lean towards good. When was the last time any other President claimed to author a for profit book while sitting in The People’s House?
