The imam leading the effort to build an Islamic community center and mosque near ground zero says there is a "misperception" that the proposed site is sacred ground.
Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf said Monday that the location where the center would be built, two blocks from the World Trade Center, has a strip joint and betting parlors nearby. He says it's "absolutely disingenuous" to suggest that it is "hallowed ground."

Sept. 13: Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf, executive director of the Cordoba Initiative, addresses the Council on Foreign Relations in New York
Strippers and gamblers did not bring down the WTC...
Dirtball. It is a hallowed site. (Please excuse my hostility. My mom always said I had a mean streak.)
Some most likely died because of it coming down however.
Correct.....besides that, it’s none of his business what goes on in other places. It is the business of people of this country where he builds a mosque.
Um, heavenly bodies and holy rollers.
Rauf has not moral standing to call anyone “absolutely disingenuous” since he is the very epitome of deception.
Rauf, say what ‘that site’ is to YOU.
A Victory Site.
Rauf is just playing games. He fully intends to build his mosque no matter what happens. The contention that the Ground Zero mosque will be a ‘symbol of Muslim moderation’ is absurd on it’s face and he knows it. He’s just trying to gauge what he can get away with and how craven America really is in the face of relentless Muslim perfidy. Dismissing the proposed site for his victory mosque as ‘not sacred ground’ is either a great act of stupidity on his part or a sly middle finger to America. I believe it’s the latter.
Until this jackass gets a single simple American name, like Bob, or Chris, or Bill, or Dirk, or Chet, or Jake, etc, I am not going to pay any attention to a damn thing he says. He has the wrong name to say anything to America. It is impossible for him to know what anything means to an American because he’s a fricken foreign radical. He is a stooge and an egomanic who cares not how much angst he generates every day. Every day angst from Rauf ImamFeisalAbdul - - what is this jackass doing addressing the CFR.
He needs to turn himself in at the justice department as an unregistered stooge agent for Al Queda and Saudi Arabia.
Unless those are strip clubs where the strippers come out with explosives wired over their pasties and G-strings, and the betting parlors are ones where you get to bet on which thoroughbred blows up before he crosses the finish line, it’s still hallowed ground.
Hallowed.
Churches.
Rauf (can we then call him “Ralph?”) delights in pushing the envelope day after day so that he can create a wide variety of
bitterness, confusion, and acrimony he can then label “Islamophobia”, as if to prove that it’s already here in spades in this country, and he’s just pointing it out (but of course not provoking it).
That is his mission here, in this endless “holding pattern” we’re stuck in, thanks to him, where a passenger has stabbed a Muslim cabdriver, and a few fringe figures will burn a Koran, or offending pages out of a Koran. They point to these things, naturally, as if they’re emblematic of our latent, but widespread Islamophobia. They never change their talking points. They are from another planet, and they do NOT belong here engaging us in ‘dialogue’, and WE are conscientiously being pushed into a point of no return in our fatuous dialogue with them.Sooner rather than later, the time will come when we must CUT OFF all dialogue with them, assuming we have the guts to recognize it for what it is. This ONLY has a chance of happening if we have the will to put our new majority in Congress, hold their feet to the fire, and start getting realistic about the scope and nature of the Islamic problem we’re facing.
He’s really done it now. This remark will be like gasoline on a fire. Keep talking guys, just keep talking.
Well, I say that Mecca and Medina aren’t hallowed ground, the moron!
I’ve decided that Mecca is not hallowed ground.
The church building can start next week, right?
