Bush was right: We're not at war with Islam(Here's an example of the trash we get from Academia)
cnn ^ | 9/13/10 | Julian E. Zelizer

In the aftermath of 9/11, Americans were angry, fearful and scrambling for answers.

In the days that followed the terrorist attacks, President George W. Bush and Congress prepared their response, starting to work on stronger counterterrorism measures and preparing for a war in Afghanistan, where the Taliban had housed al Qaeda networks for many years.

A few Americans turned their rage against Muslims who were living in the United States.

Within a few days, Muslims, as well as individuals mistakenly perceived to be Muslims, were attacked. The Sikh owner of a gas station in Mesa, Arizona, was killed by a man who went on to shoot a Lebanese clerk at another gas station.

Near Dallas, Texas, a man shot and killed a 46-year old Pakistani who owned a small grocery store. In Cleveland, Ohio, a man drove a Ford Mustang right through an Islamic center.

Nine years after 9/11, there is a lot for Americans to contemplate as they look back. Although people have focused a lot of attention on Bush's appearance before a group of New York firefighters at ground zero, another highly significant moment took place on September 17.

That day, at the Islamic Center in Washington, the president delivered a powerful message about the need to keep America's response to 9/11 from turning into a war against Muslims. This message was as important to his war on terrorism as the strategy of regime change, or pre-emptive war.

Stupid idiot never explains why Islam is at war with us Americans, though.

Isn't a war when one party believes it regardless of whether the other one doesn't?

If someone fights you, isn't a fight going on even if you don't throw any punches?

Bush's philosophy is now under fire. In response to the proposal to build an Islamic center near ground zero in New York City, a heated national debate has unfolded about Muslims in America. While some focused their criticism on whether this was a proper project so close to the site of the attacks, many others turned it into a different kind of discussion.

Some national Republican leaders, including Sarah Palin and Newt Gingrich, have made provocative comments, helping to make it a national issue. Gingrich warned of the "radical Islamists" he said were behind the project, comparing it to Nazis putting up a sign next to the Holocaust Museum in Washington.

Oh, man they are going nuts. Now Bush is right but the rest of us are wrong. They are really reaching hoping that they separate conservatives and patriots from the GOP.

I say this again. Only 7-8% of muslims are radicals and out to wipe us out. Has anyone figured out what the 7-8% represents in numbers? How about 80 MILLION muslims. Is that something we need to worry about? You tell me!

Until the so-called “moderate” Moslems step up and condemn their radical bretheren, we are are war with Islam.

The problem is that their holy book calls for the kind of jihad they are waging.

another highly significant moment took place on September 17.

When Bush took his shoes off in that filthy mosque and declared Islam as the "Religion of Peace", he shamed all Americans, and set us back a decade, during which Shari'a and Islam have advanced greatly towards their goals in this nation. Could you imagine FDR even visiting a Shinto shrine in Hawaii after Pearl Harbor? Disgusting even to think about it.

Isn’t it interesting that the religion that is blasphemous at it’s core, is so hurt and outraged when they perceive an act that they think is blasphemous.

Even during the Crusades, the West had Muslim allies in the region, and if not for them, they would not have survived for two hundred years in a hostile land.

Back then you could make the argument that it was indeed one faith against the other, and yet they STILL had Muslim allies in the region.

The present conflict is modernity against savagery, freedom against despotism, a culture of commerce and understanding or one of poverty and alienation.

“Our contest is not only whether we ourselves shall be free, but whether there shall be left to mankind an asylum on earth for civil and religious liberty.” Samual Adams

Stupid and and idiot no less?

If 1.5 billion people were at war with us the world and our lives would look a lot different than they do.

So it stands to reason that the whole religion of Islam isn't at war with us.

You're simply avoiding the issue by saying "Islam" without actually telling us what you mean by the term.

It is undeniable that we are at war with a group of people who adhere to Islam.

That is not the same as saying that we are at war with all people who adhere to Islam. Because we certainly are not.

Of course, if enough people insist on erasing the distinction, it will certainly disappear and you can guarantee a war with all Muslims.

And if you really want to identify "stupid idiots," those would be the ones who make it a point to add enemies unnecessarily.

Depends were the poll is taken. All middle eastern countries it is much higher then 8%.

http://www.dansimmons.com/news/message/2006_05.htm
For example in Lebanon it is between 70 to 82% that back the defenders of Islam. Same polls taken in Europe the numbers are around 10 to 25%. In the US it is under 10%.

Not so much. Monotheistic religions accuse other religions of being blasphemous at their core, and are accused by other monotheistic religions as being blasphemous in their behavior. It's what they do (though nowadays nobody gets as upset about alleged blasphemy as Muslims do).

"That is not the same as saying that we are at war with all people who adhere (Devout) to Islam. Because we certainly are not. "

With that change I would disagree. Islam has not been hijacked. Islam isn't any different then any other blood thirsty Ideology from Communism to Nazi's.
There is no interpretation of Islam like all other religions.
Either you are a devout Muslim or you are not.

If philosophy were animals and religion was a dog, then ISLAM would be the rabid dog of religions.

Even if it's only 1%, that's a formidable opposition and enemy.

True. But it's not like the whole religion is at war with us. Bush was right about that.

The 7-8% comes from the estimated 1 Billion world wide. I think that the key is the approx 80 Million radical muslims. Now.....out of the 1 Billion, how do you tell the good from the bad with those numbers?
