What's at Stake in Delaware
Redstate.org ^ | Sept 13, '10 | Dan McLaughlin

Tomorrow, the voters in seven states and the District of Columbia go to the polls to conclude the primary election season. The most closely-watched race on the ballot will be the race between long-time at-large liberal Republican Congressman Mike Castle and Tea Party-backed conservative insurgent Christine O’Donnell for the Republican nomination for the open Senate seat previously vacated by Joe Biden.

...

The Castle-O’Donnell race has become perhaps the most divisive primary of this cycle within the conservative movement, for reasons I’ll explain in a moment. There are a couple of important questions at stake that are worth considering, which really go to the heart of what kind of party the GOP should be; but it’s equally important to recall that we are compelled to face those questions only because of the particular weaknesses of these two candidates and the conditions in Delaware. The result is that there are good arguments on both sides of this one, arguments that have been made eloquently already on the RS front page by people on both sides. As I’ll explain, I come out on the side of backing Castle, but the case for backing O’Donnell can’t be dismissed out of hand and deserves serious reflection.

The Best and most poignient article I have read on the Delaware contest to date (does not go into personal attacks,..and gives points on both sides of who to support)!

Conservatives must be WISE in their decisions this election season.

The only way Castle is a "wise" choice is that he is more electable if the conventional wisdom holds and therefore adds toward a GOP majority.

Castle is a RINO's RINO. For instance he favors Cap and Trade. He is deep into the incestuous politics of Delaware. This is Specter II.

I can’t say that I agree. It is extremely long. But I don’t find anything new in it. All it comes down to is, yes, Castle is a flaming liberal machine Republican who cannot be trusted, but you should vote for him for fear that the Dem might be elected.

Well, actually, even though he has spent millions of dollars smearing his conservative opponent, I think she still has as good a chance of being elected as he does. Because I don’t think people are very happy with him or with his conduct.

Mike Castle voted FOR Cap-and-Trade.

Mike Castle voted FOR the $700 billion TARP bill.

Mike Castle voted AGAINST the surge in Iraq.

Mike Castle voted to ban incandescent light bulbs.

Mike Castle voted to investigate George W Bush for impeachment for “lying” about Iraq.

After ObamaCare was passed into law, Mike Castle refused to support its Repeal.

This is like the latest Obama MSM spin.We have a Constitution but it may not be ‘Wise’ to pay any attention to it. Vote with the one you agree with.

I thought we were supposed vote our principles in the primaries, and vote the party in the general election.
Isn't that what we're doing?

Unfortunately, she has no chance of winning in November.

It’s Castle vs. O’Donnell/Harry Reid as Majority Leader.

I know not what course others may choose, but as for me: Give me conservative candidates or let the democrats win. NO RINOS. Ever. Period. The end.

If you’re gonna die? Die with your boots on !!

J.S

What do you mean about being wise?

Do you mean we should follow the lead of those who insist we must elect Republicans, for the sake of gaining more seats and therefore more power to the GOP.

For example, we followed that advice in the past, gained a MAJORITY in the house and senate. Conservatives helped deliver a “Rainbow Coalition” of Republicans.

And what did we get in return for that. A MINORITY and Obama.

Or do you mean we should now trust the people who have promised to govern more conservatively, but never do.

So, what is your definition of wise?

That's what I believe.

And based on that argument, I hope DE votes against Castle.

If you live in Delaware, show up to vote tomorrow.

vote with your heart, vote with your head, vote with your wallet... whatever gets you to the polls, but vote.

For the rest of you, enjoy the show.

Unfortunately, she has no chance of winning in November.

Whoever thought Scott Brown(GOP) would take Teddy Kennedy’s seat in, of all states, MA.

But it happened!

No, I mean they should be wise, as in throughly review (and then pray), and investigate how their decision to support one candidate or another will not only affect that race, but also America as whole.

I didn’t advocate one candidate over another and I have reservations about both, but in the end I would reluctantly choose Castle (If I were in Delaware) just as this poster did (and much for his reasons), ignoring all the personal attacks on both sides!

I’m overjoyed over Angle, Miller and the other true conservatives winning in the primaries.

O’Donnell is unfortunately flaky. Her lawsuit was bogus and her claimed reason for dropping it (lack of funds) is bogus, because any discrimination case with merit is on a contingency fee basis.

I would rather see a Democrat win there than Castle. If we have to have Democrat I would prefer him to carry the proper Democrat label rather than being a nominal Republican.

My policy is to support the most conservative candidate that can win. That’s why I supported Miller in Alaska and now support Castle in Delaware.

Same here.

Rasmussen Reports 9/2 - 9/2 500 LV Coons 47 O’Donnell 36 Coons +11

A vote for O’Donnell is a vote for Harry Reid and Obamacare sticking around another 2 years.
