The House Republican leader on Sunday suggested he may be willing to concede to Democrats who want to let the Bush tax cuts lapse for the wealthiest Americans, but the Senate Republican leader today said he is standing his ground.
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.) said on the Senate floor today that he is introducing legislation "that ensures that no one in this country will pay higher income taxes next year than they are right now."
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for McConnell said today that every Senate Republican has pledged to oppose any attempt to extend the Bush tax cuts that doesn't include an extension of the tax cuts for the wealthy.

I don’t know why Team Obama decided to Alinsky Boehner.
They have a much better target for ridicule in Mitch McConnell.
Better than Boehner
Better than Boehner
Good cop/bad cop
Good on ya Mitch.
I'm sure they've thougth about it, and would like to. But, they probably don't want to do or say anything that can be taken as a public acknowledgment that the Senate is in play, too.
If they start talking about McConnell, things must REALLY be bad in their internal polling.
I can think of two reasons:
1. Boehner is up for re-election, McConnell isn't.
2. They probably think that the Senate will not flip, and that the House will.

Boehner needs the hook, raht now, yesterday. He is a creeping, sleepwalking disaster with the oratorical skills of a turnip. The man CANNOT think on his feet and is a quintessential, card carryng RINO. By many accounts he is lazy. Would it damage the cause in 2012 if Michelle Bachmann were to become Speaker in the interim? If the Suntan Man gets the speakership, within two years he will have trashed the conservative cause completely - because he doesn’t give a d*mn about it.
Typical FRaliban. Never satisfied.
wealthy = employers
Tax cut for wealthy = tax cut for employers
Oh noes, he didn’t get Boehner’s “Master Plan” so many have been telling me about!
Mitch, don’t you know? You’re supposed to say you WILL let the cuts expire for the rich! Yeah, because that way, uh, it’ll get us the tax cuts we want by, uh, giving in partially...
What is this “strategy” the Boehner apologists have been telling us since he was slapped around on Meet the Press again?
My turn to LOL.
The new Republican motto on this matter should be, “Why punish the rich? When was the last time you asked a poor person for a job?”
I guess you're in the same boat as me--we don't understand how sitting there while Bob Scheiffer says this is about Republicans standing in the way of the "Obama middle class tax cuts" and NOT DISPUTING this characterization is actually genius.
The man CANNOT think on his feet and is a quintessential, card carryng RINO.
You nailed it.
McConnel is/will be only the Minority leader, so who cares what he says?
**I dont know why Team Obama decided to Alinsky Boehner. They have a much better target for ridicule in Mitch McConnell**
The WH Alinsky attacked Boehner because they can and it worked. Boehner is up for re-election and thought looking cooperative would help but instead it made him look weak.
STUPID GOP!!! They don’t know how to frame a debate. You don’t use tax cuts for the rich in the same sentence.
YOU SAY NO TAX INCREASES ON ANYONE IN THIS TIME OF ECONOMIC UNCERTAINTY.
That is what this is, the tax cuts expiring is really a tax increase on businesses. No increases makes sense in people’s minds. Tax cut/Rich do not, even though it is the right thing to do.
Dumbass.
Any extension will do right now. We can lock a permanent one in when we get the Congress.
Joseph Lieberman was just on Cavuto calling for extending ALL the tax cuts.
