Africa 'needs billions more aid' says Blair commission
bbc ^

The commission set up by ex-UK Prime Minister Tony Blair to find solutions to poverty in Africa says the continent needs billions more dollars in aid.

The Commission for Africa says the world's poorest continent has made "extraordinary progress" since 2005.

But poverty reduction has also become more challenging in many parts of Africa, it says.

The commission's report has been published ahead of a global poverty summit in New York later this month.

Africa, this report argues, has changed a great deal in five years.

There has been what the commission calls "dramatic" economic growth and a surge in trade and investment, not least because of the demand for Africa's natural resources from countries such as China and India.

Malaria But the commission also says the vast majority of people in the continent have yet to benefit from this economic success.

And climate change and rising food prices will make poverty reduction more challenging in many parts of Africa.

Against the success stories, such as more children than ever before going to primary school and more sleeping under bed nets to protect them from malaria, the report points out that the number of undernourished children has barely changed in 20 years.

The commission says calls for more aid may seem at odds with the focus on public spending cuts in donor countries - but it says the message of its landmark 2005 report that a strong and prosperous Africa is in everyone's interest is just as relevant today.

Why don’t the wealthiest Africans (Arabs) foot the bill?

One thing I simply do not understand is how we can pump ungodly amounts of money into craphole countries, and there never appears to be any noticeable change. Take Haiti for example. It seems to me if we sent in just a fraction of what we have pumped into it, it would make enormouse difference. Yet, it’s still a craphole. It makes no sense.

Oversight, anyone?

Bono and U2 pay no taxes due to a clever Netherlands tax dodge they have. All the U2 corporations are domiciled in Netherlands. U2 pays no Irish taxes. Bono was clued into this scam by Keith Richards.

Bono can give his Netherlands stash away to Africa. Go do it you stinkin two faced hypocrite!

Imperialism was “bad” because we spent money and instilled our own colonies/government.

Now we are expected to fork over even MORE money to foreign countries and have no say in how the money is used.

And the Left believes that money was misappropriated in Iraq? They don’t know the half of it.

Either there is accountablity (we get a seat at the table) in these nations or not one “Red” cent.

I've heard that he was once giving a concert, and he started clapping his hands and proclaimed "Each time I clap my hands a child in Africa dies." Someone in the audience yelled back "Well then stop clapping your bloody hands."

The left calls it aid but in reality it is a massive transfer of wealth from those who worked hard to earn it to those who the left has officially designated as an “oppressed” group.

Aid destroys the local farms and businesses

Aid keeps them on their butts instead of working

Aid goes into the bank accounts of the totalitarians

Rule of law. Thats what they need. Africa is rich beyond measure; they need rule of law. Fix that and the billions will come from all sides without having even to ask.

The Commission for Africa says the world's poorest continent has made "extraordinary progress" since 2005.

and here it is:

The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), a division of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), spent $823,200 of economic stimulus funds in 2009 on a study by a UCLA research team to teach uncircumcised African men how to wash their genitals after having sex.
The genitalia-washing program is part of a larger $12-million UCLA study examining how to better encourage Africans to undergo voluntary HIV testing and counseling – however, only the penis-washing study received money from the 2009 economic stimulus law.
The washing portion of the study is set to end in 2011

Sure, Africa is making "extraordinary progress"

Lets send billions more!!

TRUE!

But fundamentally screwed, actually politically screwed. Still today the feudal chiefs control everything, and you have to remember, there are two; the chief by day and the chief by night. AND no one can get ahead of either of them. Until they get past their feudalist approach, they will continue to be the raiders, looters and pillagers they are and never see deomocracy.
Sure they can point fingers at the “colonialists” who stole their future, but they have been up to their own thing for years now. Kinda like that Obama genetically altered reality.
Worst part? ITs that identity that they have brought here.

Wealth? Why do you think China is talking such a huge position? Which bring on other interesting questions.

One argument that comes forward is the trans atlantic slave trade, and the chinese will not harm us. Fools...at so many levels.

One of their greatest arguments is the slavery issue...and the US gets 100 percent of the blame... mainly from the muslim voice.

Most need to be re educated...
