"The top House Republican said Sunday that he would support legislation that extended tax cuts for the middle class but not the wealthy if that was the only option, an apparent concession to Democrats that was met with skepticism from the White House.

Rep. John Boehner (R., Ohio), speaking on CBS's "Face the Nation," reiterated that he preferred extending the Bush-era tax cuts for all earners. But he said he would vote for a bill limited to middle-income Americans if all other options failed." .... A Boehner aide said the congressman would accept a compromise that doesn't extend the Bush tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans if talks remain stalled over the next three weeks; Congress is scheduled to breaks at that time for the November midterm elections. .....

Here's a modest suggestion. In exchange for allowing the tax cuts to expire, negotiate for the elimination of one Federal Cabinet Level Department.

And for each of any subsequent tax increases, another Federal Cabinet Level Department must be eliminated.

That is what needs to happen.

Yes, he did. They planned on having the ‘press’ use that until the election.

The GOP has nobody with spine.

That is true. That is why we need to throw the bums out in November. Too bad we can't throw McCain out with them!

BUT, until Republicans have a majority there isn't much they can do to stop Obama and the other socialist.

He said, ".....if that was the only option".

He should easily be able to dance around with talks till the election.

Like I said of this same stupidity when it was raised in another thread, lets just have Boehner agree to the entire Democrat agenda just so the dems have no talking points. Geez, that’ll learn ‘em!

Translation: Boehner screwed the WH's campaign plans.

Before criticizing Boehner. Understand what he just did. He basically took the demagogue stick away from the Dems.

What did he diffuse?

The TRAP that was set for him by Obama, et al to say they were stopping a 'tax cut' for the 'little people'.

I agree that we should cut taxes (for real) for EVERYONE but this was a TRAP that he avoided.

Of course, he could have said that millionaires and billionaires are the ones who CREATE JOBS but that must be way over his (& other Repulicans) head(s).

Who wants a politician dancing around? I rather him be honest. The rich already pay more in taxes. Why do they need a much higher rate?

If the poor/middle class paid more, people would vote for real, instead of thinking only the rich will pay...

Michele Bachmann for Speaker, if Republicans get control.

Boehner does not understand the reason why there’s a Tea Party. It’s because all taxpayers are overtaxed, not just those for whom advocacy is politically convenient.

He never was on my list for leadership.

Ohio rinos are republicans, yet in most cases they are interchangeable.
