(As a bookseller, I do not support destroying books).

As a bibliophile with a large library, I generally agree. However, one Christmas my lib-addled step son gave me a copy of Al Franken’s paperback: “Rush Limbaugh is a Big Fat Idiot.”

As I handled it, carefully like a dog t***, by the clean end, it made excellent kindling for the Yule log, page-by-page. There are exceptions to many rules. (See `act utilitarianism’.)

When we had new bookstores, I had to sell that dog t***. In so many of the liberal stores, you won’t find any conservative books, but I always carried the whole spectrum. I still have liberal former customers who order from me that have no idea of my political leaning. I hope I wasn’t the source of your Christmas present.
