A taxi cab driver reportedly used his handgun to stop a man who had just robbed a bank was was attempting to use the cab as his get-away car.
Police say that a man flagged down a cab in Atlanta's Buckhead neighborhood, and asked that the cab driver take him to an ATM. When the cab arrived at a bank, the man is said to have gotten out of the cab with a paper bag in his hand, gone into the bank, threatened a teller with a realistic looking fake gun. Upon exiting the bank, the man reportedly pointed the fake gun at the cab driver and ordered him to drive. At this point, the cab driver drew his lawfully carried self defense gun and fired a few shots in the robber's direction, which caused him to flee, police say. A motorcycle officer quickly appeared on the scene, and with the cab driver's help, located the suspect, who is said to be a homeless man, a bag of money, and a fake gun, according to news reports. No injuries to the cab driver, teller, bank customers, or the suspect were reported.
Those who oppose armed self defense should note the many cases like this, where a law abiding citizen uses their gun for self defense in a busy area, and not one bystander is endangered. Remember, statistics show that armed citizens are less likely than the police to shoot the wrong person, not to mention the other benefits to innocent members of society.
