Sherwood police officers lose ‘unreasonable force’ case [Chip On My Shoulder Alert!]

A jury ruled Sept. 1 in federal court that two Sherwood police officers are guilty of subjecting a Sherwood man to unreasonable force during his arrest.

Rodney Burrell of Sherwood sued officers Vernon Blocker and Scott McFarland for, according to his formal complaint, “unreasonable seizure in violation of his rights.”

The case was heard in the U.S. District Court by District Judge William Wilson.

Blocker and McFarland have together been charged $190,000 in compensatory and punitive damages, to be paid to Burrell.

On Oct. 14, 2005, Blocker and McFarland arrested Burrell on charges of aggravated assault, aggravated assault on a family member and resisting arrest. The two officers stated on their police reports from 2005 that they were dispatched to Burrell’s residence to investigate a domestic disturbance. The officers reported that they spoke to a woman at the house, Lakeysha Chapple, who claimed Burrell had hit her and threatened her with a gun. McFarland reported that Chapple seemed very frightened and told him Burrell had an “extensive record of violence in Pine Bluff.”

The charges against Burrell were dropped in Pulaski County Circuit Court in May 2006. Burrell filed the lawsuit against Blocker and McFarland two years later, in 2008.

Two Three posts negative to police all within a few minutes. A quick peek at all your posts shows the same pattern.
How long have you been a cop hater?
How many years were you in jail, despite the fact "you were innocent?"

Never been to jail.

And answer me this question, a question I post to all the ones who ask the same stupid question you just did...

How is posting a news article anti-cop or “cop-hating”?

Do folks who post stories of priest who are accused of child abuse, anti-catholic?

Do folks who post stories about allegations of crimes committed by a soldier anti-military?

To the Admin Moderator,

If you have something to say then say it, like an adult in a post/reply to the thread, stop this childish temper tantrum of changing my titles.

You should do a Google Search on the term "Only Ones".

Thousands and thousands of rogue cop stories.

Murder, Kidnapping, Rape, Assault, Burglary, Theft, Child Molestation, Embezzlement.....

Three stories in a few minutes hardly scratches the surface. Unless you are Robert Paulsen, of course.

So your day consists of coming home after a hard day at the office, searching for every negative police story you can find, then posting them here on FR.
You claim you have no personal reason, but you do this day after day after day ... and then claim you're not a cop hater. And you think that's normal?

You're like that other dimwit who does the same thing with John McCain, except he uses a ping list. Then he and all his McCain hating buddies get their rocks off entertaining themselves with their hatred. Feckin' sickos.

If you want to hate "the pigs", go over to DU where you'll have much more in common with their scumbags.

Well, your response might have been an answer to someones question, but not mine, so I’ll ask you again...

How is posting a news story “cop hating”?

If I was posting hearsay I could see your point, but what I’m doing is no different than any of the other 1,000 articles that are posted here each day for folks like you to agree with...

Sometimes the news hurts, sometimes it tells us things we do not want to hear, sometimes just like life, the truth does sting a bit.

I’m not sure how familiar you are with the teacher perception situation in NJ.

Their popularity has taken a hard hit since earlier this year when they decided to essentially give the public the finger as they jumped off the cliff.

The police are standing on the same precipice, and these stories provide some evidence that they also are giving the public that same finger.

If things don’t change, I predict that the cops fall from public grace will be harder, further, and frought with violence.

I am not negative on police because my father was a Detroit Mounted man, but I can give you 1 example from personal experience when I was a nurse...

The local cops brought in a older teen in handcuffs to the ER. ER sent him to the floor I was working on and he became my patient to admit...

It seems after the arrest in front of his house, he needed to be sent to the hospital....The handcuffs were so tight on the kid I told the Police to loose the cuffs before putting the other cuff on the bed side rail.. His hands were red and swollen for the tightness....,p. The cop told me....I quote....I am not loosening those damn cuffs unquote.... I told him if he didn't I was going to chart the condition of his hand and that you refused to loosen them up....

May people do not know that *nurses notes* are legal documents that can be used in court...

Cop was dumb but not stupid...he also knew notes were legal documents.....he got pissed at me, but did loosen the cuffs enough so that the swelling in my patients hand went down...

The boys father showed up a while later and gave me the whole story....also when he went out to see what was going on, they cuffed him threw him in the back of the police car and took him to jail, he was released 1 hour later and came to the hospital to see him son....The father was still shaken and was in his late 60's about 5foot 6 and a quiet spoken man....

As I said, my own father was a cop but even back in his day he would talk sometimes about ass hole police that thought they were dictators.....he also said any man under him if he brought in shit arrests got his ass chewed out so bad it never happened again....

Its the commanders fault if he lets his officers get away with crap....

Personally I like these threads, they jibe with my personal experiences with cops who abuse power. No, I have never been arrested or put in jail, but I do think all local police should be disbanded and the county sheriffs should handle all law enforcement. I have had cops come and try to force their way into my house, with no warrant, more than once, simply based on a rumor from some a**hat who didn’t like me. Cops constantly abuse their power, not all of them but enough of them and it is getting worse. And no, posting threads about cops who f*** up and abuse their power is not being a cop hater.
