12 US Soldiers are facing trial in the deaths of Afghan civilians - being described as cold-blooded murder.

>> So far all but one of the accused in the Haditha case has been exonerated. SSgt Frank Wuterich,
Exactly.
It takes a long time to get to the bottom of these cases. The front page often proves itself a disservice to the facts on the ground.
I have not written one word about Sgt. Hasan. Get a hold of yourself. It's difficult to have discourse with someone who's foaming at the mouth.
I merely responded to montag813 because he asked a question about cases I keep myself up to date on, and included your name as a courtesy because you appeared interested.
I admit some curiousity why the obsession with reputed but obviously unrelated and dated cases and their CAPITAL PUNISHMENTS, how your dismissive black and white, everything goes by the book blind faith fits in with a senator calling our Marines cold blooded murderers, and the DOD letting a known insurgent sympathizing magazine hack decide the course of the investigation - after the govt. dismissed the Watt Report, which exonerated the squad.
I really didn't think I'd get all those questions answered so...."Fully", but you really did a spectacular job, and am no longer curious how you came to your stance regarding our Marines receiving a fair, unbiased trial.
Here we go again.
Disgraceful. I really hope this isn’t true, but that’s looking unlikely. All these ‘soldiers’ do is besmirch the good name of the US Army, which I consider (objectively, since I’m a Brit) the best in the world.
As for *some* of the comments on here, I truly despair. Events likes these make a very difficult job impossible. MURDER is MURDER is MURDER.
Maybe he wants to be the first one to receive the Medal of Restraint?
If this story was truly legit, it would be running 24/7 on MNDNC/NYTimes etc etc.
Congratulations and thanks as well.
...I tend to give benefit of the doubt to our soldiers. However, if it can be proven that the charges are factual and no spin for liberalism has occurred, I want to see this handled in an honorable and just manner.... Though I reiterate that I am always skeptical when I see something like this.
Absodanglutely! I always give our soldiers the benefit of the doubt.
So often—especially lately—these things turn out to be false accusations against our troops. I don’t trust this story, and would sure like to hear the other side.
true if the soldiers are guilty of shooting civilians as sport ,they are scum. BUT.... the military charges against them are very questionable? they were stationed at a forward post in Kandahar ( extreme hot zone) not in a secure town with alot of civilians. If one or more of them had body parts (fingers ) of the afgans and were smoking hashish they are in serious need of mental help and need to be in a hospital for mental evalation not a prison cell. If true ,these are the types of troops the taliban fear , and will make a big issue out of it.
Thanks...these are interesting. Some serious typos, though, regarding the dates at the bottom of page 3.
No, but that's the colloquialism that has been used throughout the history of the Republic. The death warrants used to say, "...and shall be hanged until death....", so it kind of stuck.
I know you didn't, sport. I did. But, you did bring up an entirely unrelated case to criticize this case. What is good for the goose, is good for the gander, is it not?
Yep, Akbar has nothing to do with this case, and neither does Haditha.
"I admit some curiousity why the obsession with reputed but obviously unrelated and dated cases and their CAPITAL PUNISHMENTS"
If you had actually taken the time to read the post that I was initially responding to, you might have realized that I was illustrating that what these soldiers are alleged to have done is NOTHING like the unintentionally collateral casualties that were realized during World War II. That was the assertion that was made, and I was setting the historical record straight.
There were "war crimes" committed during WWII by American service personnel. Those crimes were prosecuted. Some service members were convicted, and some of those convictions ended in the harshest punishment possible.
Makes a man wonder how Joshua {who took Moses leadership role} would have responded to todays R.O.E. Interesting book really on how to fight to win wars. Needs to be read by every President, Member of Congress, and General. Written {inspired} by our Creator Himself. King David’s General centuries later also taught King David a lesson on war as well. Too many today want Kinder, Gentler, War. There is no such critter except for the loosing side.
More accurately, probably somewhere between 20k and 25k.
The wiki article is actually pretty good on this subject.

Very strange allegations, 4wb. I’m suspicious when the one member (Winfield) who allegedly tried to send a warning signal that crimes might be occuring (via his parents) is also charged with murder. (Wanna bet he’ll eventually get immunity?) He also says that virtually everyone in the platoon was aware of what was going on, but didn’t seem to object. Again, seems suspicious.
The alleged murders came to light after a PFC reported drug use (hashish) in the unit. After questioning, he eventually also claimed that he believed another member had been involved in three unjustified killings. Now how does that make sense? You report hashish smoking (because that’s really bad), and then upon further questioning, you tell investigators you think a platoon member is also guilty of murder? Wouldn’t possible murder warrant being reported first?
Hope they get good civilian counsel.
There is a chance that this story is true. The military has plenty of leftist vermin within its ranks. It’s not beneath the leftists to kill civilians just to make the “evil imperial” military look bad....and for pleasure of course.
or because glorious Obama hasn’t pulled out all the troops. Leftists only care about civilian murder when a Republican is in power.
the “for sport” part sounds made up. were they muslims? do they hate and want to kill Americans and Jews?
The only ROE I’d agree to as a soldier would be complete immunity from prosecution. Since it isn’t negotiable I doubt you’ll see me in a war zone any time soon. Plus if they ever got past that demand, they’ll still be shocked at my salary requirement. I’m thinking 50K a day tax free. On the bright side, I wouldn’t require civilian appreciation or pats on the back, or a spot in the hometown parade.
