I’ve got exactly the same opinion of Symbolic Protests now as I developed when I saw my very first one (1969, IIRC).

They are:

> Primarily intended to attract (media) attention.

> Generally have little or nothing to do with ANYTHING remotely factual.

> JMHO, suck about forty feet of swampwater.

I tend to agree. However, sometimes, they signal that one has had enough of being ramrodded to accept an opposing belief.

Building an Islamic center on Ground Zero made me very angry. My hope has been that New Yorkers will do all they can to prevent it. Pastor Jones just got pushed to the rebellion line sooner than I did.
