I’ve been reading leftist tracts about how the poor countries of the world are poor only because nasty capitalist countries like the U.S. have oppressed them. You can still hear the proponents of that cockeyed theory on places like DU. The simple fact is the only way for poor countries to get out of poverty is to adopt free market economics. Obviously Obama hasn’t grasped that.
I should add: I’ve been reading FOR DECADES about anti-colonialism.

Obama hasn’t grasped that nor have millions, perhaps billions of others. It would appear that there is a huge movement to kill the normal human desire to be independent and autonomous. The current depression is far more dangerous than the one in the thirties simply because not only is there a much larger population which means the current level cannot be sustained except by ultramodern agricultural techniques but only a very small minority know anything about how to produce food. In the thirties we still had a large percentage who knew how to survive on their own so long as they were physically able. Now we have vast numbers who could literally starve in the midst of plenty for lack of basic knowledge that used to be common. I can actually visualize masses fighting over scraps and it could happen very soon, in fact it will happen barring some kind of complete turnaround.
There is a recent proliferation of “survival” shows on television but they all concentrate on one individual or two surviving in the wilderness. We need something on how to survive in what is left of civilization (which is fading fast).
