WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama is exhorting a Florida minister to "listen to those better angels" and call off his plan to engage in a Quran-burning protest this weekend.

Obama told ABC's "Good Morning America" in an interview aired Thursday that he hopes the Rev. Terry Jones of Florida listens to the pleas of people who have asked him to call off the plan. The president called it a "stunt."

So burning 200 Korans is “provocative.” But building a mosque near Ground Zero (let me be clear) is not.

Palin is at least consistent. Both are provocative.

on 9/11 thousands died and Obama blamed the usa.

somebody burns a mere book and Obama has caniption fits.
(is islam so weak that it is killed by burning a mere book?)

Obama speaks out against burning a mere book but refuses to attend the 9/11 memorial service.

We have a flight 94 memorial shaped like a crescent which is pointed to mecca, we have yet to agree on rebuilding the WTC, and Obama is silent.

We have a church that predates the WTC which is being stalled in either rebuilding or relocating because of politics and Obama is silent.

The moslems want to build a victory mosque so they can circle the WTC location in the same way they circle the kabba and Obama DEMANDS the mosque be built immediatly and with taxpayer money.

What is wrong with this picture?

I agree. Things will get worse. Maybe muslims will get the message that the American people will now bow down to them like Obama does.

This reminds me of a story that Arlo Guthrie used to tell in concert. I know he’s a lefty everyone, but he doesn’t shove it down your throats and he’s a great performer.

Anyways, he used to always sing Amazing Grace during his concert and he told the story once that he was singing it and then forgot the words halfway through. So, he made a call out to his audience to send him the words for the other verses so he wouldn’t forget. Over the next year he was getting Amazing Grace sent to him in the mail left and right. However, not one of them was written down. You see, people went to Church and started ripping Amazing Grace out of the hymnals. Arlo figures there was several years where there was no Amazing Grace in most Church hymnals and so there was a dearth of Amazing Grace singing in Church for a while.

Don’t know if it was true, but when he told it, it was very funny...

So why does Obama support the mosque at ground zero under the auspices of the 1st Amendment, but request that the pastor not burn the koran, which is protected by the same 1st Amendment?

Quote of the year!

Anyone who supports this irresponsible action, I suggest you go down to Florida and burn a Koran with the cult guy, and get your faces in the paper.

Put your money where your mouth is, so to speak.

Would Jesus wish harm on others?

Absolutely right! How come the media didn’t cover that story? I don’t give a sh*t what muslims think of us. And the GZ mosque better not get built.

This is no more dangerous to the troops overseas than Obama getting in on the ground zero mosque RIGHTS.

Of course he can. I just don’t think it shows much class or is an honorable thing to do.

That sounds like a story a leftie would make up. Would you really rip a page out of the hymnal at your church?

My husband asked me what I think of this Koran-burning controversy. I told him that I would never do it myself but that the man has the freedom to do it. (I know, it’s sort of a namby-pamby answer.) Then I got to thinking about it. Prior to the American Revolution, I’m sure that many rank and file colonists thought that the revolutionaries were engaging in provocative harebrained stunts. Yet sometimes a stunt highlights the bigger picture. Hey, I bet some of Hancock’s friends said, “You’d better not write your name so big on that declaration, John. It might insult and upset the king and make him and his armies even meaner.”

England imposed sugar, stamp, currency, and quartering acts on the colonists. Remember that the Sons of Liberty was a protest group that intimidated the agents so much that most of them resigned.

they were trying to burn IDEAS.

this kook is making a statement. It is no diffent than the NEA funded Crucifix in a Jar of Urine. It also was done by a kook and did offend. That did not kill the idea.

Moslems are acting as if this one teeeny tiny act by a nobody kook is going to destroy all of islamism.

I was really taken by a passage during worship. I held the bible with me as I was walking out and I asked the pastor,

“Sir, I don’t have a Bible, may I keep this one to read and Study?”

KABUL, Afghanistan – Hundreds of angry Afghans burned an American flag and chanted “Death to the Christians” on Thursday to protest plans by a small American church to torch copies of the Muslim holy book on the anniversary of the Sept. 11 terror attacks.

Local officials in Mahmud Raqi, the capital of the Kapisa province some 100 kilometers (60 miles) northeast of Kabul, estimated that up to 4,000 people took part in the protest. But NATO spokesman James Judge said the protest numbered between 500 to 700 people....

I am surprised it has not already been done.

Whoever does the koran burning before the kook will have all the PR in the world.

BTW has anyone else announced they will also be burning the koran on 9/11

The blown up reaction to this is odd, given we are constantly told most Muslims are moderate.
