President Obama urged a Florida pastor Thursday to call off a plan to burn copies of the Koran on Sept. 11, warning that such a "stunt" would amount to a "recruitment bonanza for al-Qaeda" and would endanger Americans.
Obama added his voice to a chorus of criticism of the proposed Koran-burning in an interview broadcast Thursday on ABC's "Good Morning America" program. He urged Terry Jones, pastor of a small evangelical church in Gainesville, Fla., to listen to his "better angels" and cancel his plan to burn copies of the Muslim holy book on the ninth anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
"If he's listening, I hope he understands that what he's proposing to do is completely contrary to our values as Americans, that this country has been built on the notion of freedom and religious tolerance," Obama said. "And as a very practical matter, I just want him to understand that this stunt that he is talking about pulling could greatly endanger our young men and women who are in uniform."
Obama added: "Look, this is a recruitment bonanza for al-Qaeda. You could have serious violence in places like Pakistan and Afghanistan. This could increase the recruitment of individuals who would be willing to blow themselves up in American cities or European cities."
The president said he hopes Jones "listens to those better angels and understands that this is a destructive act that he's engaging in."
By weighing in on the controversy, Obama joined critics from across the political and religious spectrum in condemning Jones's plan.

The more people like Obama say “don’t burn the Koran”, the more it makes me want to go out, buy one and then burn it just for spite.
Amazing that a threat to burn one Koran is literally worldwide headline news. What about the burning of Bibles that I see so regularly, but only in Christian reporting from mission organizations and groups like Voice of the Martyrs? Double standards at work...
Contrast this statement with how he handled the 911 mosque.
Obama and Sean Hannity both are shoveling Al-Qaeda talking points. Hannity was such a sickening little RINO on his program yesterday.
But is he going to lecture us on the pastor’s constitutional right to burn it?

I’m much more afraid of BHO’s policies than a private citizen burning a few Korans.
I have seen videos of African Muslims burning Christians, not their books, but the Christians themselves. This isn’t making any news headlines, but it does seem very much more egregious. I don’t know what to do about this because I do believe that we need an effective Crusade, not more posturing (which is what I think burning Korans really amounts to).
What a really really bad idea for the president of the US to enter this and elevate it.
At best, how about “We deplore threats of violence and the acts that inspire them”

Then we will ask the muzzies to be tolerant, just like the leftists tell us we must be tolerant when the muzzies demand to wear burkas in an office environment where no one else is permitted to have their face covered. Or the muzzies insist on imposing sharia law in local communities where they are in the majority. Etc., etc.
Americans can then see if tolerance is a two-way street with people who have a 7th century mindset.
Islam is NOT compatible with a free country. And importing Muslims to our country is suicidal. Time to face that squarely right now.
