“War is insensitive.”

Indeed. Nice to see someone who actually “gets it”.

I’ve been following the various “Quran burning” threads for a while, haven’t had much to say about it. Perhaps this is the place.

Yes, war is insensitive. It often involves brutal acts. Hmmm — I should have left out the “often” part. All-out war is inherently brutal. Usually the side that is willing to be the MOST brutal emerges as the winner. This is how it works: you win by breaking your enemy, not only physically, but spiritually as well.

Crushing the enemy’s spirits can be the key to winning. I recall reading that even after the first atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, the Japanese warlords wanted to continue fighting. Faced with such devastation, they still had at least some “will” to continue, no matter how many Japanese lives would be lost. It took the second bomb at Nagasaki to break them.

But even the strongest spirits can be shaken by symbolic acts, as well.

The West needs to demonstrate to Islam that it cannot win. More than that — Islam must realize that it is a deadend, that the “god” Muslims worships is false, and that there will be no tolerance or acceptance of what Islam advocates in The West.

Islam is anathema to all that comprises the culture of The West. 180 degrees. All that we embrace, they despise. Given the opportunity to do so, Islam will do all in its power to make The West disappear.

If we are to survive — and I don’t yet believe that The West has demonstrated that it has the will to do so — we must demonstrate to Islam that what it represents will never be accepted nor tolerated here, that what Islam represents is reviled by us.

The pastor of that little church down in Gainesville has it right.

What better way to demonstrate such resolve than by a symbolic act that cuts to the heart of Islamic belief — to symbolically destroy and desecrate the false idol of Islam by burning its creed?

If doing so was not a powerfully symbolic action, this debate wouldn’t even be taking place.

We can embrace the symbolism, and by thus doing embrace the Cause of The West. Or we can cower while those who WON’T defend The West try to intimidate us for having the temerity to defend ourselves in what is destined to become humanity’s most (and perhaps final) existential struggle.

Gentlemen, who brought the matches?
