Haley Barbour, who has great social conservative credentials, did not tell candidates to “ditch” social issues. That's just obvious spin from a Social Con news source. Barbour said that the focus of this election has to be spending and taxes. That is the critical issue to this country right now. Just because candidates focus on that does not mean they are going to vote Pro-Choice or for gay marriage. It just means that the priority has to be cutting spending and rolling back Socialism.
Right!!!!
So called "conservatives" around here have become as emotional and reactive as any of the liberals we have been combatting over the past 4 decades.
They don't care what the facts are, they simply react to whatever headline they encounter without even bothering to investigate the facts.
As far as I can see, this nation is beyond saving. Nobody cares about the truth, they are too lazy to investigate what they are told, and everytime someone sends them a chain email, they rush out to yell about it at the top of their lungs . . . whether or not it contains any truth at all.
Just look at the uninformed angry responses in this thread. Barbour may be the best conservative running in the country. His credentials are sterling and his pro-life record is pretty much flawless, but some clown writes what amounts to a hit piece based on half truths and suddenly he's an evil RINO.
I tell you, it's pretty much hopeless. Darn shame, America was a terrific idea. Somewhere along the way, we lost it.
Here's what he actually said:
Any issue that takes peoples eye off of unemployment, job creation, economic growth, taxes, spending, deficits, debts is taking your eye off the ball.
But if somebody goes to campaign for governor candidate x, I would hope that somebody would stay focused on the issues that matter to the campaign: jobs, the economy, taxes, spending, debt, deficits.
You run down rabbit trails, you're wasting you're using up valuable resources that could be used to talk to people about what they care about.
He's right. If this nation doesn't immediately do something about the economy, right to life concerns will be irrelevant as people struggle just to survive.
Haley Barbour, who has great social conservative credentials, did not tell candidates to ditch social issues. Sounds like his "credentials" were just a matter of him doing what he had to win in Mississippi.
And, no, he didn't say the focus should be on economic issues. He said to ditch social conservative issues. Hell freezes over before social conservatives vote for someone that disrespect issues they hold dear like that. Barbour is proving to be part of the problem with the Republican party.
