Haley Barbour Tells Pro-Life Republicans to Ditch Social Issues in 2010 Elections
Washington, DC -- Haley Barbour is the latest potential Republican presidential candidate to suggest that social issues like abortion should be taken off the table while making the economy the main focus. Despite the fact that polls show Americans strongly oppose the pro-abortion health care law, Barbour says fiscal issues should take priority.

Yes mam
Any issue that takes peoples eye off of unemployment, job creation, economic growth, taxes, spending, deficits, debts is taking your eye off the ball. He's right. If this nation doesn't immediately do something about the economy, right to life concerns will be irrelevant as people struggle just to survive.
But if somebody goes to campaign for governor candidate x, I would hope that somebody would stay focused on the issues that matter to the campaign: jobs, the economy, taxes, spending, debt, deficits.
You run down rabbit trails, you're wasting you're using up valuable resources that could be used to talk to people about what they care about.
Then Haley’s an ass . . . if we cannot protect the unborn and newly born from slaughter, then none of our rights mean a damn . . . and NOW is the time to put our eggs in the Tea Party basket to demand their voice be heard. How can he be so stupid as to get in league with the murderous dummycrats . . . if he really said this, then I’ve lost all respect for him.
I’m sorry, but the criticism is spot on. It’s not ‘either-or’. Fiscal issues are important, but so is getting rid of taxpayer funded abortion.
Exactly. May sanity return to FR and this circular firing squad cease firing. From the article:
the Mississippi governor said those who focus on social issues like abortion are taking the GOP off message this election cycle.
Any issue that takes peoples eye off of unemployment, job creation, economic growth, taxes, spending, deficits, debts is taking your eye off the ball,
He said his advice is primarily for candidates seeking election in November,
Barbour said a candidate's stance on abortion aint going to change anybodys vote this year."
Haley is one of the good guys.
Seems we already have, we elected a (r) President, congress and senate, and they changed nothing, when they could have.
The Supreme Court is not supreme, but our closet progressive RINO's certainly hide behind the court decisions, in order to advance their true agenda.
Do you really believe no one in the FBI, or CIA, or in the Senate really knew nothing about Obama and his background? If you do then the Republic is truly lost, and this forum is a waste of time.
Do not go gently into that sweet goodnight my friends.
Barbour will take us directly, back into RINO Land. Go to daily caller and see all the positive feedback he gets for putting the loony Christians in their rightful place, at the back of the bus with Sarah Palin and Glen Beck.
Why do you think Goldwater really lost? Check Anne Coulter for her opinion, maybe you will understand why Megs McCain cried when her dad selected Palin as his running mate.
I’d like your opinion after you watch the video and read the accompanying article. I think this headline/title is highly misleading.
Haley Barbour would never go for a pro-choice agenda. The article with the video I linked puts his remarks all in their proper context. Governor Barbour is not my candidate regardless. I’m solidly for Sarah Palin.
:)
Don't lie in desperation to make your point, I never said that at all.
True conservatives are conservative period, social, economic, and military, most people that are anti-social conservative like you, vote Democrat. "Social conservatism is conservatism, but of course there are many moderates and social liberals that cling to conservatives for economic reasons although the vast majority of them vote Democrat"
This is from the article.
“Barbour was asked about the “truce” potential presidential candidate Mitch Daniels, the Indiana governor, called for on social issues that quickly got him in trouble with pro-life advocates.
Though Barbour is strongly pro-life and has signed pro-life legislation, he said he agreed with Daniels’ sentiment, which Daniels partly walked back in a subsequent interview.
Barbour said a candidate’s stance on abortion aint going to change anybodys vote this year.”
The uniting issues are all about economic opportunity in the US of A. The divisive issues are social/moral issues. Appropriate to hashing things out in the primaries...will interfere with success in the general elections.
Haley, Mississippi ping.
BTTT
Several things. How funny you mention "right to life" and "survive" in the same breath. (Right to live for me & thine is fine; but right to live for thou womb one, who cares?)
It used to me that you had to kiss babies to campaign. Now, the supposed "pro-life party" just throws 'em under the bus *re your quote of H.B. labeling all social issues as "a rabbit trail."
How many pro-lifers think actually having a generation to hand off this nation to as a "rabbit trail?"
What's also "funny" is that we never seem to see the "fiscal types" suggest the reverse "tactic."
The U.S. has been the wealthiest culture ever in the history of the world. And when this nation was at the height of its wealthiest production -- coupled at a time where voters were talking "values" and also where we were in the thick of a major, major moral freefall -- we didn't see the "fiscal conservatives" say, "Any issue that takes peoples eye off of values, social issues, abortion, protecting marriage, etc. is taking your eye off the ball...You run down rabbit trails, you're wasting you're using up valuable resources that could be used to talk to people about what they care about.
So guess what? It's NEVER the "right time" to discuss the mass dismemberment of the youngest members of our human family. It's seemingly always "wise" to postpone "polite discussion" about this.
So, don't be deceived by the people who can't multi-task. Believe me, if we ever get in another WW with multiple fronts -- like WWII -- you won't want them in a leadership position, anyway...they'll not be able to juggle it all.
And one more thing, Sudetenland, mYou have the whole thing reversed. It's the nations that kill off the vulnerable en masse that don't survive, anyway. 'Tis a little thing known as God's judgment -- or just plain consequences from immoral lifestyles of "me first"...like where we see in European and even some Asian countries where they're not even replacing themselves population-wise...These immoral realities become so multiplied within the culture that it becomes too far gone to salvage.
Surely, you've heard the term, "paper tiger?"
Absolutely. 100% pro-life. Men can say they're pro-life and I accept they're sincere, but Sarah Palin lives it.
I'm afraid that Haley Barbour is not very fond of Sarah, but that's okay. He's McCain's friend after all.
God speed, dear friend!
