A lot of you are clearly missing the humorous points being made by Adams, whose writing is always a bit “tongue in cheek”. His reference to being convicted while not even being in Canada is a play on words using two meanings of the word “conviction”: conviction as with one’s conscience and conviction as in breaking the law. The reference to Canada is an aside remark since one can be convicted of hate speech in Canada for simply stating opposition to homosexuality.
