While I agree with you on teh “wisdom” of burning a book in theroy, our rights are not theory, they are proactice. While I hate the Westboro cult’s protests at slain warriors funerals, I must defend the right to speak-otherwise where (and more importantly, WHO) draws teh line? The soultion to the Westboro fiasco is a counter protest by the Partiot Guard Riders. 30-100 Harleys cranking drowns out the free speech of the one (but does not prevent it), while reminding the mourners that others care enough to be there and step between, non-violently and often non-verbally.

Burning this book or my book of faith or my flag or whatever, as lon gias it is provate property legally obtained (ie not forcibly confiscated by another/from another) is acceptable, while not niuce,it is a free speech issue.

Genrals and politicians need to pay attention to the ball, and not be distracted by the free exercise of individual rights.

Some would say your “right” to be a home school Mom (We HS’d too) is anti-social, inefficient and not legal and should be regulated by the “public schools” but you exercise your rights, no?

I agree that this church has every right to burn the books. However, I also think it is folly. It does nothing significant but it does incite violence that others will have to defend themselves against.

I do realize that if we TRULY take a stand against Islam that it will incite violence and we will all have to defend ourselves. This I am willing to do

I just hate to see other puts in jeopardy for a pastor to get his 15 minutes. He has no regard for their lives just for his rights.

I missed this wording when I responded before.

The state did not give me a right to be a homeschool mom. I am a mother that is raising my children. I decided not to ‘hire’ the state to educate my children. If the state tries to force me to put my children in public school they have actually violated our constitutional rights.

Sorry pet peeve. I feel the same way each year when I get the letter from our school board saying our homeschool was approved.

Washington DC - The Saudi government burns and desecrates hundreds of bibles its security forces confiscate after raids on Christian expatriates worshiping privately or at border crossings.
As a matter of official policy, the government either incinerates or dumps bibles, crosses and other Christian paraphernalia.

Hundreds of Christian worshipers are arrested every year by Saudi police in raids on their private gatherings. Bibles, crosses and printed materials are confiscated and later burnt or dumped into trash. Bibles and other Christian paraphernalia found with travelers into the country are confiscated and destroyed.

Although considered as holy in Islam and mentioned in the Koran dozens of times, the Bible is banned in Saudi Arabia, and is confiscated and destroyed by government officials.

I agree-folly, but when does the “perception” of “folly” abridge one’s God Given right to be “foolish”? (all opinions of someone else, no?)

Even if this now aborted act causes injury or even death, the one act does not justify the other. The muslim who kills a person because some other remote person offends him is still a murdering sociopath who would likely kill anyway-over some other real or percieived insult etc (they do this daily already, no?). America needs to face the facts. This is what they do for a living-to others who are not subjected as they are. Islam has only force; and they prove the point even in this matter. The real issue is that presidents and generals and secretaries of state have bowed down to the threat of such force-which is the same as it has been for the non-muslim world since, oh about 800 AD....

This pastor is not putting anyone else in jeopardy-the actors who respond with violence are. We must understand that clearly, otehrwise, who can act w/o being blamed for the possible/likely fallout?

Saying this man must not practice his right bacause someone else may react criminally is akin to saying you must not defend your home with force because if you do, another housebreaker may start with violence (as if house breaking is not violent to begin with) when he criminally enters anothers home because you were willing to defend your home with force; kinda gets circular really fast.
