In Support of Westboro Baptist

By Fran Ingram - Posted on 21 April 2010

On Sunday April 18, Westboro Baptist Church came to Gainesville. One of their stops was a liberal "Open doors, open hearts, open minds," church near us, so we took part of our Sunday Service time and went as a church to stand with them.

/snip

I have been asked most often in the last days about the 'protests' that Westboro does at funerals.

The arguemant (from very angry people with extremely ugly language) is that their attendance at funerals is offensive and a fallen soldier is NOT a sign of God's wrath.

My answer:

Westboro Baptist is not anti-military or anti-USA. Rather the opposite, actually. Do some research. They go to funerals because the Bible says that a fallen soldier is a sign of God's wrath and a reminder of the condition of this world, a fallen world, in sin. We all know that. None of us want to fight wars. We have to, and we honor the fallen for their sacrifice, but funerals are also a chance to repent and get our lives right with God before our own comes along.

The soldier who is already dead knows what's coming, whether they are in heaven or hell. I think they would be glad for the extra reminder to loved ones that they still have time to make a choice and use the rest of their time given here for God rather than wasting it, in a spiritual sense.

We have also learned that when you speak out about what God hates, you will be hated. We do not agree with all of Westboro's methods, but we admire their determination to find radical ways to preach the truth of the Bible, as we do. Most churches and Pastors in America try to stand on neutral ground. They are lost, weak and sick and need to repent.

Senior Pastor Sylvia Jones wrote on facebook:

Today was a historical day! People who did not know each other with nothing in common but the word of God marching in unity and putting the kingdom first, ahead of everything else! What can be more important than saving people from hell? We must stand on the truth, the word of God instead on finding reasons why we cannot be in unity! Yes we can! We can obey God and save people from going to hell!

You can find more pictures on our facebook page here...

At DWOC we are also very pro-America, pro-Military, AND super, radically concerned about people's salvation. That's why we go after Islam and say it is of the devil - it is anti-Christian and anti-America. In this liberal world, names and labels get thrown about and twisted at random. Don't we all get angry with the media for preaching half truths which amount to lies?
To my Christian friends, get your Bibles out and read the OT Prophets. They were hated too for speaking God's words of truth, then killed. I would rather be right with God than right with facebook friends. Where are you?

And another answer:

If we lived in a sinless, no devil world, there would be no war. We have chosen sin, there are therefore wars, and we all suffer, we all need to repent. I'm OK with your thinking I am sick, but think about the fact that the Bible is what I am talking about, not my own ideas. Don't you think that a fallen soldier reflects some of what is wrong with the world? Not the soldier but the war itself?

What is the point of not making people angry and uncomfortable in this life if that means they go on, clueless, rebellious, straight to hell. I would have to answer to God for that. I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ and to stand with other Christians that preach it truthfully. Did the prophets and leaders in the Bible, even Jesus, did they always peach a nice sweet message? Did they always respect the sensibilities and traditions of the people? Think about it. Read your Bibles, people!

I have a Grandfather that died in WWII.  I am proud of his contribution to that war. But he and my family are Christian and eternal salvation is the most important thing on our hearts. We do not think Westboro are hateful. They point out what God hates, desperate, like the Prophets of old that no one go to hell.

Jesus said, in Matthew 7:13,14

"Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.

That narrow gate is a knowledge of the truth, a fear of God, Jesus Christ's sacrifice on the cross for your sins, repentance from our sins and wickedness, as we are warned throughout the Bible. This is the hope for you, the hope for your family, the hope for our Nation, for the world.

And yes, if my husband died I would be glad if Westboro would come and hold their signs and sing at his funeral. Many people would be shocked, but they might be shocked into a fear of God and a decision for Christ. How will they know if someone does not tell them?

If the Fred Phelps character is not a scheme concocted by marxist Alinskyites for the purpose of making Christians look bad, then he’s Little Bo Peep.

Now it appears Terry Jones is the same thing. No different from the trolls who want to harm this forum.

I think all of these “people” should be ignored.

A perfect vehicle to promote Cultural Marxism's continued assault against Western Civ. by showing the hypocrisy of so called "christians". The PR stunt by this "Church" serves important purposes to the powers that be. The MSN picks it up and blows it out of proportion, shows how intolerant "christianity" is, the hysterical military "concerns" try and throw logic on parade, and government officials "acting stupidly" over a tiny "church's" actions by making Islam out to be on par and more tolerant than Christianity (Koran reading in "Christian" Churches" are praised). Christ's Gospel gets perverted by both sides which leads to santan's favorite weapon, confusion.

The whole production by this small church is manna for those who shape culture and government.

1. It’s perfectly acceptable - and correct - to say Islam is of the devil.
2. It’s perfectly acceptable - and correct - to say that the judgement of God is coming against America for turning away from God’s law and providence.
3. It does not, however, follow that the death of any given soldier (who more than likely is a Christian since we have a red state army) is a sign of God’s wrath.

Standing with that old supporter of Al Gore - Fred Phelps - discredits any cause.

The fact that this small insignificant church opposes Jihad does not make them Christians.

I doubt the contention that they are Christians based on their support of this:

Phelps and Jones are two peas in a pod. Both claim to be Christians and do whatever they can do in order to get in the headlines.

This is a publicity stunt by a charlatan.

There are a few Freepers who I think would be 100% supporters of Phelps if he only could just stay away from the military funerals.

Here is an instance of book-burning recorded in the Bible, book of Acts:

"Many of them also which used curious arts brought their books together and burned them before all men and they counted the price of them and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver. So mightily grew the word of God and prevailed." Acts 19:19-20

OK, so he’s a crazy person. I was thinking this was going to be the spark that lights the fuse for the clash of civilizations that’s coming, and it still may be, but he’s no Charles Martel or Jan Sobieski, neither of whom would have been petty enough to light up a stupid book anyway - they went riding into battle with their SWORDS, not their tinderboxes.

if this guy supports “God hates soldiers” then forget him.

And if he or members of his congregation become victims of Islamic Terrorism because they burned a Koran and we say nothing, then Islam has won and everything our soldiers have been fighting and dying for has been in vain.

The guy is an ass. And Politics makes for strange bedfellows.

The Great Commission of Islam is "Kill the infidels wherever you find them".

The truth of the matter is that Osama Bin Laden did more for the advancement of Islam in America than anyone else. The American political reaction to the 9/11 attack has been to coddle Muslims, to make them the victims and to promote their agenda.

If this guy were to burn a copy of the Book of Mormon, or a copy of the Bible, nobody would care. But because his plan is to burn a copy of the Koran, everyone seems to want to be on the side of those who have a mission to destroy this nation and to institute worldwide Sharia.

If the terrorist threats against him are fulfilled and he is killed by terrorists, then this is not just an attack on some ass who has sympathy for Fred Phelps, it is an attack on all Americans and and attack on Liberty.

If we are going to join in the chorus of those who condemn him for this act, then we have to realize that we are joining in with the likes of Obama, Eric Holder, Hillary Clinton and Osama Bin Laden.

Frankly I would suspect that Fred Phelps probably opposes the burning of the Koran by this preacher because Fred Phelps apparently thinks that the Muslims are doing God's will. And if that is the case, you can add Fred Phelps to the list above.

I agreed with your points on this on a different thread/different post. We’re on the same sheet.

I am simply referring to the guy himself....not his rights or his rightness on THIS PARTICULAR issue.

Holder and Homeland Security should be all over him over the threats against him. If we need another advocate of Koran burning to make the point that we’re not afraid of the terrorists, then I’ll nominate you, and you can nominate me.

It’s just ink & paper burning and death threats ensue? How insanely unamerican is that?

If Jones were smart, he would start the fire by kindling it with a copy of the Book of Mormon, the Catholic bible, the Baghada Vita, a copy of Mein Kampf, the Communist Manifesto, the Origin of Species, The Message, "The Purpose Driven Life", Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, "Dreams of my Father", and "It takes a Village", and then when the flames are going full bore he could toss the Koran on the top and wait to see who issues death threats.

I would bet my house that he would only be getting death threats from Muslims. Anyone want to take that bet?

But then again nobody ever accused Pastor Jones of being smart.

“if this guy supports “God hates soldiers” then forget him.”

Unfortunately, some in here could`nt care less. As long as Jones burns some korans, they are perfectly comfortable with his supporting “God hates soldiers.”

A good stack of books other than the koran would emphasize that the issue is free speech that’s free of death threats.

I like the idea.

You are hereby nominated to take this exercise over from Pastor Jones who lost his ammo if true that he supported “God hates soldiers.”

David was a soldier. So was Joshua. Gideon. Etc.

Thanks for this earlJam.

It supports my opinions stated yesterday.

This is a BAD thing, and now I know why. These are BAD people posing as Christians....

That is an extreme statement that doesn't hold water, P-Marlowe.

There are many Biblical principles that support opposing this irresponsible attention-grabbing act, and it has nothing to do with supporting the political left, and especially not Islamo-fascism.

The fact that he supports the very non-Christian Fred Phelps is further proof that this is a bad actor doing a bad thing.

As for your pinging me yesterday, the fact that a Pope burned the Torah doesn't exactly support your position with principle either.

Book burning may be a protected act under the Constitution, but all protected speech is not something we, as conservatives, and as Christians should support.

Book burning is a BAD idea, and now we know that the people doing it are not the kind of people we can support.
