No Castle for Delaware
Human Events ^ | 09/07/2010 | Dan Riehl

Conservatives are fond of saying they are conservatives first and Republicans second. The current Republican primary for the U.S. Senate in Delaware presents a perfect opportunity to prove it.

I'd encourage conservatives to consider all the facts and the bigger picture, hopefully realizing that rejecting Rep. Michael Castle is critical to building a cohesive, Big Tent center-right majority within the Republican Party long-term.

There will be no Rubio, no Angle, Mike Lee, Toomey, nor Rand Paul in the Senate when the winner of the Delaware special election is sworn in promptly after the election on November 2. The seat is on the ballot again in 2014. Castle will be 76 by then. He's a better placeholder for some next Democrat, than the GOP holding the seat long-term.

Mike Castle is simply the wrong nominee for Delaware, for conservatives and for the GOP. He is entirely unworthy of any conservative's support. As for Christine O'Donnell, I'd encourage you to read Jeffrey Lord at The American Spectator, and also Mark Levin on his Facebook page. I'll let them speak to that. But as regards Castle, I believe the facts are the facts.

He is a terrible choice as a nominee, especially at a time when the country is shifting right. The damage he will likely do to the GOP brand in the Senate should be seen as more important to conservatives, than what even a Democrat might do. If Republicans don't win the seat this year, but conservatives continue our work in the right direction, there is a much greater chance of winning it with a genuinely moderate Republican in 2014. That's when it would represent the kind of change for which we advocate and America very much needs.

Say whatever you want about Christine O'Donnell, but conservatives must say no to Mike Castle on principle and because it is the only truly right thing to do for conservatism. Republicans be damned, until they begin to care about conservatives, again, as they not only should, but must, if they hope to continue winning much of anything in the future.

Don't allow them to shoot both themselves and conservatives in the foot with Castle

Why Christine?

Side By Side Comparison of Christine O’Donnell & Mike Castle:
Jobs Voted for Nancy Pelosi’s cap and tax energy scheme which would kill 6,117 Delaware jobs and also voted for the job-killing minimum wage hike. Believes jobs are created when businesses are freed from endless taxes and bureaucratic red tape.
Security Voted with liberals in Congress to handicap our intelligence and military agencies. Believes terrorism is an act of war requiring the full force of our intelligence and military resources rather than granting terrorists precious Constitutional rights and outsourcing our foreign policy to the U.N.
Debt Voted to increase the national debt & consistently supports Washington’s reckless spending. Believes heaping trillions in debt on the backs of our grandchildren is immoral and that Congress is elected to make the hard choices to preserve our nation’s future prosperity.
Taxes Voted to keep the death tax, to increase taxes by $3,100 on every American family, and to remove the protection of the middle class from dramatic tax increases originally intended to hit <200 of the richest Americans. Will fight to remove the crushing tax burden faced by American families and businesses and dramatically simplify the tax code.
Life Voted to subject children to out-of-state abortions without consent of parents, voted to use U.S. funds to support Planned Parenthood at home and abroad, supports human cloning, and sponsored the bill to destroy, exploit and experiment on unborn children as scientific lab-rats. Strongly believes in protecting the sanctity of life at ALL stages.
Energy Voted to ban exploration for American energy, keeping gas prices high, to prohibit drilling in America’s land and waters, and to ban building new oil refineries. Supports a market-based approach to energy solutions that will keep competition high and energy prices low.
Values Voted to allow liberal activist judges to strip “under God” from the Pledge of Allegiance, against the Constitutional protection of marriage, and against educational choice for parents with children in failing schools. Believes our country was founded on core values of faith, family and freedom and will fight to defend those values. Will always fight for maximum choice for parents about where to educate their kids, including private, parochial and charter schools or in the home.
Spending Voted to spend billions on failed stimulus packages & bailouts. Believes unrestrained government spending is eroding our freedom, destroying our economy and ceding our sovereignty to foreign debt- holders like China.
Accountability Voted to protect 103 outrageous pork projects that would lead to corruption and waste. Denounces corrupt pork-barrel politics, including earmarks, and will fight for increased transparency and performance information for every Federal program.
Healthcare Remained undecided about Pelosi’s government takeover of healthcare until 4 days before vote. Believes that the solution to the healthcare crisis is less government meddling in the doctor/patient relationship, more competition in the insurance market and more choice for families about their health plan.
Gun Control Received an “F” rating from the NRA, indicating a strong anti-2nd Amendment position. Christine’s strong support of 2nd Amendment rights has earned her an “A” rating from the NRA.

Hard to believe anyone can be worse than Snowe, Collins and Brown, but this guy seems up to the task.

I’m watching this race and it seems Christine O’Donnell is by far the better choice. I hope you guys can get her elected. I’m not sure what to do with Mark Kirk, here in IL. I told myself last year I wouldn’t vote for him. He’s about the same as Castle when it comes to voting with the Dems.

I’m not a fan of Castle, but not sure if I can agree with the arguments made against the Delaware GOP for choosing him as their candidate..He’s an at large House member, so essentially he’s run state wide elections..i.e. a senator who runs every two years, and has been re-elected, and not faced any serious opposition, so he thus does represent the people of Delaware. Now he faces a primary....we shall see..

Here he is again. Popping up to try and discourage conservatives. Don't fall for this propaganda, because that is just what it is. He, non-sense, is a liberal plant.

I'd crawl over glass to vote for Kirk. I know he's the ultimate RINO but it would be just too sweet to see the Dems lose 0's seat.

I honestly don't know if I could vote for Castle if he should win the primary.

Go Christine!

And here is faucetman, the stone cold RINO. I'm sure that you and Castle and McCain and Fiorino will have a lot to talk about.

The fact of the matter is that the person who started this thread is right. If we don't take advantage of the circumstances to install real conservatives in office in 2010 in a state as liberal as Delaware then we may never have a better chance to do it in the future. A GOP senate full of people like Snowe and Collins and McCain and Graham and Fiorino may hold attraction for you. It doesn't for me.

“Say whatever you want about Christine O'Donnell,.....”

Please stop this slander. This implies that there is some truth to the LIES and SMEARS put out by RINO GOPers.

Christine O'Donnell is the real deal Conservative. She is right on all the issues. She is smart, articulate, committed.

She has explained all the lies made against her on her website. She was and or is being shadowed by Castle people at here events, it's on video, she's not delusional. She did get a college degree and did graduate. She was required to pay off her student loans before her diploma was granted. (good for her). Her house was not foreclosed on, she sold it. The tax lien was placed on that property in ERROR (or for intimidation) by IRS TWO YEARS AFTER she sold it.

So, NO, don't say “whatever you want” about Christine, let's try the TRUTH instead.

GO CHRISTINE!!!!

Hi Marm

I decided that I will NOT vote for Castle - Period!

I told him so, face to face.

Not 100% sure what I will do - considering options.

One thing for sure - If you plan to fail, you will not win!

You know - like 0bama now does...

LOL Marm, now you know why I haven’t been on Granny’s thread much lately...

Not my words - they are a quote from the article...

My suggestion is that people go to:

http://christine2010.com/blog/472-christine-counters/

IF they are interested in knowing what reality is... Castle knows that his ads are untrue, but he bought in to the 3 RNC paid staff organizers that were assigned to work in Delaware and who seem to think negative is the way to go.

Not only does Mike need to go, we need to oppose the ‘White Witch’ Baroness (Rollins) and definitely boot Tom Ross (State Party Chairman) too!

>>>so essentially he’s run state wide elections<<<

LOL this is Delaware - only 3 Counties...

Castle has lots of experience in ‘hanging on’ to his ‘teat’ as EX-Sen Simpson would say...

One year out of law school and Castle was on the public payroll - hasn’t missed a payroll since! (and he is 71 now)

And he has the audacity to say Christine is a perennial candidate - Hell, he wrote the book on that! So, just what ‘reality’ does he see or know???

Castle is a prototype RINO sell-out and traitor to the American people. He’s an eastern Juan McCain. Will republicans EVER learn that “electing a republican—any republican— is better than electing a democrat” is utter tripe!!!
