This is none of Gen. Petraeus’s business. This is a political statement and I wonder if the Obama DOD pushed him into saying this.

All the "Dove World Outreach Center" is going to prove is that Americans can be just as mindlessly fanatical as anybody else.

This act a slap in the face of true Christianity. It's on the level of that preacher who prayed for the death of Obama.

People say that radical Islamists are going to hate us anyway. If that's the case then why not try to behave in a blameless manner? Why contribute to a cycle of hate? Why stoop to their level? Why set up a stumbling block for relations with the non-radical adherents of Islam?

I never even heard about it until he commented.

I have been thinking about this since I first heard about the statement from the General. I can see both sides, but IMO, it's not the Generals place to comment.

Additionally, I don't think that any amount of ‘respect” for Islam or Islamists is going to change one damn thing about it or them.

Seems to me that we have appeased these people to the point of having them dictate what we can and cannot do in regards to their “feelings”.

Also, I do not think that it is wise for an American General to seems fearful of what burning one Koran might do. Hearts and minds? Nope, that is not going to happen anyway.

Wow way to witness to the world. Are they trying to show the love of Christ or beat muslims over the head? Sorry not Christ like.

This is in these United States of America where this “Church” has the FREEDOM to do what ever it LEGALLY wants to!
My Ancestors and probably yours, fought many Battles to make that so!
Other than your Freedom of SPEECH you cannot stop it!
Remember this THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!!!!!!!!!!!
Personally, I think burning of THE FLAG should be a federal crime but it isn’t!
So be it.

Burning a koran is too tame. I suggest tossing them into filthy pigpens to be be trodden under cloven hooves.

Unfortunately, the General fails to realize the great opportunity he has been given. The leadership will be rallying their followers to “protest against the infidels”. Not that they ever had a problem doing it before. Therefore, with those more prone to radical activities (is that an oxymoron where islam is concerned?) coming out into the open, I think the General now has a target rich environment.

Just imagine what a few well placed missiles and/or bombs could accomplish. They sure don’t seem to a have problem with killing innocents. I say repay the favor and thin the herd.

Church bent on burning Koran

http://www.iol.co.za/index.php?set_id=1&click_id=22&art_id=nw20100907182551238C410867

“We wanted to send a very clear message to them that we are not interested in their Sharia law.”

This is a real slap in the face to Muslims who “are not interested in their Sharia law.”

If Petraeus says don’t do it, don’t do it.

So Petraeus is worried that burning a Koran will increase anger toward our troops.

But a few months ago we heard that our troops are unhappy with the strict rules of engagement which require that they hold fire until they are certain that civilians would not be in the target area.

The troops want more latitude to shoot, which would result in more civilian casualties, which would anger the Muslims just as burning a Koran angers them.

There are valid criticisms of burning a Koran but angering Muslims can’t be one of them. Fear of their anger is only a sign of our cowardace.

This was a stupid idea for two reasons:

1. Is it going to change one moslem’s mind? No. No one in Indonesia, Paki, Iran, Syria, etc. going to think, “Wow, they burned a Koran, guess I better convert to something else.” In that sense, it’s even more pointless and futile than when they burned Beatles records because John Lennon said they were bigger than Jesus.

2. Does it provide ammunition to the islamappologists/GZM supporters to scream about “islamaphobia” in the US? Yes. Expect wall-to-wall msm media coverage about ‘how the right is inflaming hatred.’ It’s an unwanted distraction right before the election; like 0bama’s support for the GZM in reverse.

In short, there is nothing to gain from this.
