MILWAUKEE – A combative President Barack Obama rolled out a long-term jobs program Monday that will exceed $50 billion to rebuild roads, railways and runways, and coupled it with a blunt campaign-season assault on Republicans for causing Americans' hard economic times.
GOP leaders instantly assailed Obama's proposal, which is also likely to be met with reluctance by many Democrats to approve additional spending and higher federal deficits just weeks before elections that will determine control of Congress.
That means the plan has low odds of becoming law this year. Administration officials said that even quick congressional approval would not produce jobs until sometime next year, raising questions about what, if any, pre-election impact it would have beyond showing job-hungry voters that the White House is trying to ease unemployment.

Any major public US company is going to produce jobs somewhere else. Its impossible not to.
Obvious responses available to the Republicans:
1. Didn’t you already promise this would work LAST year?
2. You’ve been in complete control of Congress for years, and now the White House for 2 years. All you’ve done is spent us into oblivion.
3. How many Americans really want to build roads when their professional jobs don’t exist any more and they can’t use those roads to drive to work?
4. YOU promised significant improvements. YOU failed.
5. Are you better off now than you were just 2 years ago?
Been quite a while since I’ve been on FR. That said...any infrastructure projects, regardless of how badly needed, can only be a band-aid economically. Without dumping the failed free-trade policies and going back to protectionism things will continue to go down-hill, no matter who is President or what party is in charge.

The 1st stimulus (the most expensive mistake/failure in the history of the United States) included between $90 and $100 billion for infrastructure - and it failed.
And the Bamster thinks that another ~ $50B will somehow fix the first failure???
I just love watching him squirm, knowing that the only thing he could possibly do at this point to lift the fear of private sector employee hiring would be to extend the Bush tax cuts.
Worse yet for him, he may also know that if his own Obamacare and unused portion of the failed stimulus were rescinded, employment levels would immediately jump.
But he just can’t go there, now, can he?
As for just the Bush tax cuts, GWB set up this SOB real good. These idiot Dems boxed themselves in and were the only ones who never saw it coming.

I am so pissed to hear this bozo touting another $50B so-called “stimulus.” What a frickin JOKE! Where the hell did nearly $800B stimulus from just one and a half year ago go? How in the H-E-double L is another $50B going to make any frickin difference? Are people truly this stupid, dumb to think that now all of a sudden the economy is going to turn around because el-bozo presidente annoucnes another $50B stimulus? WAKE UP AMERICA!!!

I listened to some excerpts of the speech. My God, this guy doesn’t represent me. He is on campaign mode 24/7. Who is he talking about when he says, “America didn’t becomen the most powerful country in the world by rewarding greed.”
America become the most industralized country in the world, because it rewarded enterpreneurial ship. It rewarded the risk takers.
This guy is so totally partisan that he will resist tooth and nail any reduction in taxes across the board.
