KABULThe top U.S. commander in Afghanistan said the planned burning of Qurans on Sept. 11 by a Florida church could put the lives of American troops in danger and damage the war effort.
Gen. David Petraeus said the Taliban would exploit the demonstration for propaganda purposes, drumming up anger toward the U.S. and making it harder for allied troops to carry out their mission of protecting Afghan civilians.
"It could endanger troops and it could endanger the overall effort," Gen. Petraeus said in an interview with The Wall Street Journal. "It is precisely the kind of action the Taliban uses and could cause significant problems. Not just here, but everywhere in the world we are engaged with the Islamic community."

They don’t have to actually burn them - just saying they will is enough to get the muzzies in a tizzy.
“”It could endanger troops and it could endanger the overall effort,””
Change your rules of engagement to kill anything that moves!!!
Play like it’s a war zone!
I would not want to do anything that put our troops in harms way.
But if the burning of some Korans flushed out some Taliban Muzzies hiding behind women’s burkas into the sights of an American soldier’s rifle, then who am I to argue.
I had a high dollar ‘Vegas hooker tell me: “Most men, (referring the US Military - 0-4 and above), will cheerfully give up their balls for another star”
In that case, “look at us! we can almost stoop to your level!” - - > rationalized.
Did the Germans or Japanese claim the Allies were on a Holy Crusade? I can't remember.
Its the weakness we can exploit, and we should regardless of the fears of others. Its a bold and daring move that will show the hand and faces of our enemy as they lose control with their emotional anger.
I am very much looking forward to “Burn the Quran Day”.
Perhaps we should just slit the throats of children on video like the Muslims do, then all would be fine.
Maybe we should prevent all religions in our country other than government sponsored religions as the leading Muslim nations do.
But better than that, Maybe we should just tell the Muslims to go to hell.

Let’s make a deal. No Koran burning if the terrorist supporters won’t build the mosque near Ground Zero.
Where is the condemnation from those who are siding with this EVIL religion of PIECES when the muslims burn down Churches and kills anyone who converts to Christianity!? Yes their silence is deafening! Burn the satanic book...to heck with all of them!!
Maybe this church would like to foot the bill for our salary and the cost of our security during the down time that they are causing?
and don't get me started on how this is straining relationships we have worked very hard to build with the local police/prosecutors/etc...
You have obviously have never served in the Military or otherwise you would know that the safety of the troops are the first concern of the general, especially General Petraeus
His troops are in danger regardless of wether the Korans are burned or even if this church held a “Lets Celebrate Islam Day’’ parade. Obama went on his “America Apology Tour’’ to Cairo and it didn’t placate the Saracens one bit. Burn the filthy books already. At least someone has the guts to start paying this animals back in their own coin.
Where did the church get all of them, anyway? Did they BUY them somewhere? Wouldnt that defeat the whole purpose? lol
You’re correct. Buying them would defeat the point. All you have to do is contact CAIR and they’ll send them for free.
“He doesnt want to see his troops put in unnecessary danger. Its pretty rational.”
There are a lot more things the General can do to increase the safety of troops in theater than worrying about what a Florida church is doing with copies of the Koran.
General Staff should refrain from attempting to control things on the home front and focus on killing the enemy - the fact that the General is constrained in ways that he can kill the enemy is something he needs to discuss with the Commander-in-Chief - but it is his responsibility to do so, not to attempt to pressure a Florida Church to do/not do anything in particular.
If he thinks he is unable to control the situation on the battlefield then he should make it clear as well.
Close to a dozen on this thread, already.
It the taliban is offended then they can come out and fight and give us the opportunity to slaughter them, if this is what it takes lets burn the koran every week.
No I agree with you, it is certainly a stoop to their level kind of thing. We are better then that
