Same old story. Don’t make the bully angry, because he’ll just become a bigger bully.

“So generals are in command of how US Churches conduct their religious services, and if they don’t change their religious practices they are ‘traitors’? Interesting approach.”

That the proposed actions of Jones' church, which counts just 50 members in its congregation, should reverberate so loudly across the world is itself a telling sign of tensions between the West and the Muslim world, as well as what some see as a growing distrust of Islam in the United States.

"a telling sign of tensions between the West and the Muslim world..."

What a crock. It's a telling sign that they will come after us, not that it is somehow a two way street and we are going to submit to them or else...the same policy they have had for a thousand years. Time to tell them to STFU. How many bibles, flags and AMERICANS have they burned and/or killed abroad and here at home?

This is the same kind of thinking that leads our MSM into saying things like we share the blame in 9/11 because of Bush policies. More BS. Their philosophy is simple...they want to keeeeeel us.

The sooner the appeasers catch on to this the sooner we an start protecting ourselves.

[I think the poster was asking for “rationalizing” the dumb move by this Church. It seems like a pathetic stunt to gain some name recognition.]

I’m glad someone finally said it. Inside many clergy members there is a cheap politician fighting to get out.

I served in the military WWII missing the invasion to be of Japan by a couple of months. Lost my brother on Okinawa. I never had the feeling that the generals’ first concerns were my safety.I did trust in them to make my duties as no more difficult than needed. As to muslim’s anger against burnining the koran I’m not much one way or another. I do believe they wouldn’t hesitate to defile other religion’s works if they had more control.

....and what is the Ground Zero Mosque doing to morale over there?

What a joke - they were lying, cheating and beheading yesterday. And now he’s afraid they’re going to ...get worse with their lying, cheating and beheading?

If only the Florida church wouldn’t burn the korans, the muslims wouldn’t hate us.

This faux “minister” appears to have neither love of God nor fear of God. Has he ever heard the Lord’s Prayer, particularly the “. . and lead us not into temptation and deliver us from evil . . “??

His contemplated small-minded, asinine act will only engender hate from the Muslim world, fueled amplified, and disseminated in video applications by the radical elements in Islam.

It is, in fact, exactly what the radicals and all the enemies of America want. It has the core ingredients to destroy what our men and women in Iraq, Afghanistan, have worked for—and indeed what many have given their lives for.

It will be used to rationalize 9/11. It has assuredly the potential to set-back, if not destroy, all that the Western countries have done throughout the world in the war against terror. It will, in carefully nurtured media applications, unite millions against Western countries.

Petraeus is attempting a task on a par with herding cats. It’s based on the good-Moose bad-Moose principle that Bush attempted to foster. I ultimately don’t feel very optimistic about its chances, and especially since Obama has fixed a date that he is getting out of Dodge, but if this church torpedoes precarious attempts to establish diplomacy with Moose then it may well have blood on its hands.

Burning books is not the way to go. It smells of totalitarianism. Petraeus is an educated man man that is speaking out against the idea of the idea of burning the ideas in them. No matter how repulsed we may be by the Koran, the symbolism of burning them is wrong.

Burning books is lazy is what it is.

If this church actually cared about confronting radical muslims or spreading the word of Christ, they would either encourage all military-aged members of the church to join the military and go fight the radicals on their own turf in Afghanistan, or they would encourage their members to join Christian missionary and aid groups to go out and actively spread the Word of God and the teachings of Christ.

Burning books is easier and doesn't require the church members to risk their lives, nor does it require them to give up their spare time or their better paying jobs in order to serve their country or God, and so they take the easy and silly way out to get some attention.

Oh geez, if it wasn’t this, they’d just make something up to get outraged about.

so you subscribe the the "two wrongs make a right" theory of personal conduct?

A bunch of us had an interesting discussion about this last night.

Bottom line from four different Christians with differing personal faiths...we all agree if you believe Jesus calls us to spread his Word to those who haven't heard then this "pastor" is violating that directive by alienating all of the Muslims and others may not be Muslim but find this whole fiasco distasteful.

Just our $.02.

Please tell me you simply forgot the sarcasm marker with your post. Please!?

Nope.

Our local attorneys were told to stay home due to concerns for their safety. The RSO has shut down all movement and we are sitting on our thumbs for at least today...maybe all the way up to the 12th. (We're 8 hours ahead so when this douchenozzle is starting his little bonfire it will the the evening of the 11th/;early morning of the 12th and we fully expect all sorts of chaos here if this actually goes down.)

The Pastor has clearly missed the whole "turn the other cheek" thingy...

If that’s all it takes to shatter those relationships then there wasn’t much substance to them to begin with.

Really...how about your best friend intentionally pisses all over something you revere?

Are you saying that wouldn't strain the relationship?

And if you re-read what I said I never used the word "shatter."

Regards

So what if you didn’t use the word “shatter?” Are you so rigid you can’t stand the use of a different adjective than you selected? Obviously so since you come up with the equally ridiculous analogy of ‘best friends.’ My point stands untouched by your nonsense logic.

Well said. If this "pastor" were actually committed to spreading the Word of Christ, he would be calling on his congregation to volunteer for missionary work. Instead he's actively working to turn people away from Christ, people who could use Christ in their lives.

It's no wonder that this "pastor" has allied himself in the past with Westboro Baptist Church.
