I concur with the sentiment, but it’s not so easy. For example, given that they could have invested all that money taken from them, the question is what to give them back: everything they paid in plus whatever interest they would have earned in a completely safe investment, such as long-term Treasury bills? Plus whatever average rate of return the stock market provided over this period?
