Let's go with 'Community Leaders'.
Our youngest daughter is a Teacher Assistant(1) who works with Special Needs Children even though that was not her *specialty* (Special ED major?) in college, it was Reading. She has a BSEd from IL State Univ, full K-9 Certification from the State of IL (a LOT of tests to pass), and we're dam proud of her. [I wouldn't have paid for a Univ that even printed BA degrees]
I've been in commercial construction (Engineering-Project Management& Estimating) for 40 years now, and I've worked with some tough, mean, SOBs over that time that would cheat you out of a Nickel and I wouldn't want her job for anything. But she loves 'her special children'.
Ergo, IMHO that old 'teacher joke' is not appropriate any longer (now, a professor, that's another matter ;-)).
(1) She's at a local school with HIGH ratings. During the summer they asked her to interview for a 'regular' Teaching position that opened there, but lost to another ex-TA who used to work at that school. But pretty soon she will have her own Classroom.
She is a lot more than a teacher, she is a care giver.
Excuse me, but “READING” was your daughter’s major in COLLEGE?? READING??? Really???
