But, inspiring you, that's not his job.
His job was inspiring the GOP caucus -- even though they were a decided minority -- holding them together against a huge Democrat majority.
He did that job exceedingly well.
As minority leader (or majority leader), Boehner isn't responsible for PR -- he's not trying to impress you, the public or the press with his personality or his rhetorical skills.
His job is leading the Republican caucus. And, in this respect, he's done a pretty damn good job.
If Boehner's job title had been House Majority Manager I would agree with this assessment. By virtue of his position he has a lot of face time with the American public. That is his opportunity to sell the story. To explain the vision. To articulate the difference between us and them. At that he has continually been a complete and total failure.
